Hello!

Its been a long while since I have been on this forum! My husbands GC expired 10/23/2012. We sent our application in July to the VSC. He had his biometrics taken and we are in the "waiting" game. We plan on travelling outside of the US next year. Does anyone know if he can travel with an expired GC?

Yes, but you need to bring your NOA1 letter, which states that your green card has been extended for one year.

Hi Caeremonarius! Here we are all again lol We sent our paperwork in September and received NOA1 letter dated Sept 25/12 for i797. It does say you can use that letter/receipt for travel for a year. We have heard nothing since then. Zero. Not even a request for biometrics.

Hey, Caro!

Yeah, oddly, I'm comforted that you haven't gotten anything from USCIS either. We sent off our stuff at the end of last month and haven't gotten anything besides the NOA1 letter, either -- anxiously awaiting biometrics, too! You might want to call the hotline to ask if/when to expect the biometric letter. I know this process will take longer than the original AOS, but some of the timelines are ridiculous! If nothing happens at the one-year point, then people say to apply for citizenship (if you're planning to anyway) to force them make the decision.
