i was approved on the 25th of OCtober, my plane ticket was bought 2-3 months in advance for the 1st of November.

Worst case scenario, if you are denied, you can just change the date on the ticket for another date and pay the fee.

I activated the visa two days before it expired.

I know. It certainly didn't leave much room for error. But I ran into a number of unforseen obstacles which were beyond my control (sale of house, emergency surgery for my Mom, legal affairs, etc). We tried to extend the end date of the visa, but it was a no go, so we took the latest date I could leave, then added one day for the unknowns. It was a mad mad rush, and very stressful. Especially the goodbyes. I am now left with trying to tie up loose ends from a distance, without the ability to return to Canada in a timely manner. I seriously think we should have gone the K3 route, as I believe they don't have the same restrictions as K1's with regard to re-entry. Live and learn.

K-1 Visa interview - June 10/04

I had my Visa Interview April 5, 2006, I flew to Montreal and Bruce drove there from Maine. From Montreal we drove to Newfoundland, hung out with family and friends for 10 days and had a party or 2, packed up the U-Haul and crossed over the Maine border on April 18. We got married May 16 in Las Vegas. It was tough leaving home and still is at times. But I am very blessed to be married to the greatest guy and my best friend . Almost immediately. About 24 hours. If Air Canada didnt want to charge us 400.00 to change our tickets we would have left that day.

Another Q - I'm planning a vacation to India before the wedding, does anyone know of reasons why this could cause an issue when crossing? Don't think so, but doesn't hurt to check.

Not unless you commit some crime punishable by INTERPOL and they don't catch you until your visa interview.

Joel was interviewed on May 5 in Montréal, flew home to me on May 13. He had already been shipping stuff here and there before that time though, once our K-1 was approved in February. 2006.
