I got my visa on March 29th/04, I got home from Montreal on the 30th/04 and I left for the USA on April 2nd/04 ....

I WISH I could go the day of the interview November 17th (and hoping I get the visa!). I have to give a months notice at work however, and wrapping up banking issues here, last Christmas here with my kids...Hope to be arriving in the US on the 27th of January 2007!

I was going to be ready to roll immediately, but he's got pulled into military and work obligations, so seeing as his schedule has gone crazy and he is having a nervous breakdown because various areas of his life are converging all at once like the perfect storm, I am trying to delay the staffing for my job here at work, and probably extend it all until after the holidays, mid Jan maybe.

I had really hoped to be there for Xmas, but if he's having a breakdown, it will be more peaceful here anyhow!

oh well, I have got used to waiting.

At the risk of tempting the fates, we have an interview on Nov 14th, plane tickets to California on the 16th, and a wedding on the 18th. We need to start the AOS process asap as my daughter is 20yr9months and by some miracle need to have everything done and approved before March 07.

Assuming we come through the process okay, he'll get his visa in February or March and move here in June.

I'm curious for those of you already completed and those waiting... what is/was your move date? How long after the visa approval did/do you plan to move?

For myself we expect it to be six weeks or so. Primarily because I'm not just on my own waiting. I have children to accomodate too.

If things go in our favour then year end is the goal!! :thumbs:

Two months. Had some loose ends to tie up back in Canada, and lots of family and friends to say goodbye to! :-)

it was 6 or 7 weeks before i crossed. the usual, finishing up at work, packing, purging, moving mom, purging, getting hounds vaccinated, purging, good bye parties and some more purging (lets just say I had an express lane at the Goodwill! :lol: )

then he flew up and we spent 3 days visiting family & friends before we hit the road.

Plan on crossing about 3 months after I get the Visa (knock on wood). Don't have our interview date yet - still waiting for that.

Tentative Wedding Date: March 17th 2007

Cross the same day as the big planned wedding - is this crazy? :huh:

Another Q - I'm planning a vacation to India before the wedding, does anyone know of reasons why this could cause an issue when crossing? Don't think so, but doesn't hurt to check.

HAd to wait till I was complete with my job with the Air Force, so I belive it was around 10 days!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
