My fiancee and I plan to marry via a civil ceremony in January in Bogota at a Noraria. One of the requirements she emailed me was a notarized statement from a friend stating that they know me and know that I am single and eligible to marry. Has anyone here dealt with this? Do you have any examples of the wording you used on the document? Any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, I dealt with the same thing. Here is what i did:

1 I went to the hall of records in my county, they gave me a "No marriage recorded" letter stating that in searching the Official Record Index, they did not find a marriage recorded under my name in the past six months, I believe. Have it translated.

2 I typed an affidavit stating:

My Name, date of birth, passport number and country of nationality. After this, I typed the following:

"We that are signed below are friends of the person named above. We have personally known (YOUR NAME HERE) for (x) years.

We do certify that we have direct and personal knowledge that the person named above is not now married.

Then, the name of each friend with a signature line and date. End with this line:

Subscribed and sworn to before me on Date: ____/____/_________

________________________________________________

Notary Public

My commission expires on: ____/____/________

Drag your friends in front of a notary and have them sign it, then, translate it and send it to your fiance. This should be enough. (It worked for me)

Forgot to tell you: the document's title is: CERTIFICATE OF BACHELORHOOD or CERTIFICADO DE SOLTERIA, this goes at the top of the document.
