I-130 approved but it says I'm not eligible to file an adjustment of status

Here is my story - was on a h1b, got married, filed for i-130 and i-485 and also for an immigration work temp work permit all before my h1b expired. My visa did expire when I had all my paperwork in. Anyway, filed in Sept, my wife and I had our interview (i485)and we got approved!! I then received two letters today, one saying "welcome to the United States - permanent residence has been approved, but the second letter addressed to my wife said the following -

"The above petition (i-130) has been approved. The petition indicates that the person for whom you are petitioning is in the United States and will apply for adjustment of status. The evidence indicates that he or she is not eligible to file an adjustment of status applications. This determination is based on the information submitted with the petition and any relating files....."

So, I am just confused, i am assuming that i no longer need to adjust my status as i am on a new visa i.e my green card?? I know people have written on this subject before but nowhere can I see if somebody who already had their interview! I have to say I was suprised at how quick all my stuff went through - 2 and half months.

It's odd to take so long between interview and approval. That said, if your green card shows up in the mail within the next couple of weeks, I wouldn't worry.

Ah, sorry I misread your first post. In that case I wouldn't worry at all, you should get the green card in a week or so. (maybe a little longer over Christmas)
