I don't really care how you feel about that seeing that you've got no skin in the game, buddy. I've got skin in the game and I tell you that the vast majority of people that do would tell you and the rest of the fringe what I tell you - this is a galactically stupid idea.

Generally speaking, galactically stupid stuff emerges when people that have no skin in the game want to make the rules for the game. You know, like when a bunch of old geezers with no medical background feel that they know best how to address women's health issues. It also applies where we try and figure out how to keep our children safe in school. Having some involvement in the education and schooling of our young - whether as a parent or a staffer in the system - would be a prerequisite to meaningfully participate in the debate. That circle widens when we talk about safety issues - then our public safety professionals get a seat at the table, too. Gun nuts? Not so much. They can meet separately to talk about improvements at the gun range or some useless ####### like that.

So unless people have children in school, they should not have any say in how schools are run?

MIT can figure out a way to divert it so it hits the Meadowlands.

I wouldn't be doing Massachusetts any favors if I was Romney. It's not like they did him one this last election.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

We're not talking about debating how schools are run. We're talking about the galatically stupid idea to introduce weapons on school campus. That decision ought to be left to those with skin in the education system and to those with skin in public safety. And no, that does not include the NRA and your other gun nuts on the fringe. They can run their little idiotic experiments in their own spheres.

Or pay for them. I like that idea.

That's kinda where I was headed. Also, if we go down that road it should be required that school board members have children in the school districts they represent. That way they are making decisions for their own children as well as everyone elses. They'll have "skins in the game" so to speak.

Great. Only gun owners will forthwith pay for gun related costs to society. That'll save me more than I'll ever spend on my daughter's public school education.

How many tax payers in Florida have zero children yet are paying taxes on school bonds and other school tax related bs? They chose not to have children yet they are having to help subsidize every child attending a public school.

I know that our school board members are all either parents or educators. They do have skin in the game. The day they allow guns in public schools here, I am moving or taking my daughter to a sane private establishment. Not gonna happen, though. Most people in this country have a good degree of sanity and recognize that more guns are neither the answer nor the solution. Most certainly not in schools. Most people know and realize that you don't successfully fight a flood with more water.

Without an educated next generation, those taxpayers will find themselves in a country without an economy. No retirement. Good Luck with that. If you want to see what your dreamworld looks like, head over to Somalia. No taxes for schools or anything else. And no restrictions on weaponry, either. If you can get your hands on it, it's yours. Until the guy with the better equipment comes along and takes it from you.

You want education then pay your own way. Don't be a mooch and count on other peoples money to pay for what you want.

You might live in a cave up there in Alaska but the nation as a whole cannot survive without having the next generation brought up educated and ready to take over while we retire. I know you folks like to pretend that in this country it's each man for himself but that is NOT how this country became the economic superpower that it is. That is NOT how this nation became a global leader. That tunnel vision you suffer from prevents you from seeing how interdependent people in a nation are. Countries that function the way you seem to favor are what is commonly referred to as failed countries. Somalia being a prime sample. That country is your ideal world. You should really check it out. Meanwhile, real Americans will deny you and yours the opportunity to turn this great nation of ours into a failed state.

What happens if one of the armed teachers goes psycho and starts blasting away?

Can't any of the teachers do that anyways? That's the whole point. Right now, anybody with ill-intent (including a disgruntle teacher) can get a gun and bring it to a school where everybody with good intent doesn't have a gun because they are illegal. Letting teachers have guns doesn't in any way increase the number of crazy psychos that have guns at schools. It can only increase the number of sane, sensible people that want to protect the children that have guns.

The Harrold ISD in North Texas has allowed teachers to carry guns in the classroom since 2008, according to principal David Thweatt. "If you are unarmed, these people are going into those areas where they know people will not be able to resist," Thweatt told 1200 WOAI news. He says the Harrold ISD, which is west of Wichita Falls, is in a rural area where there is 'no way' that law enforcement would be able to arrive in time to deal with an emergency. He says the process of allowing teachers to carry guns in school is a complicated one.

"First, they have to have a concealed handgun license," Thweatt said. "Then that individual is approved by our school board to carry on our campus, then there is additional training, and then they have to use what is called 'frangible' ammunition, which is ammunition which breaks apart when it hits a hard object."
