We didn't have a cover letter when we filed my i-130 (f2a). We just submitted the required forms + documents + photos + $420 cheque.

We printed the forms on short bond paper. My hubby used USPS priority mail, it took 2 days to be delivered to Phoenix Lockbox.

It's a cover letter- if you want to provide one, you have it covering the forms, ie at the very front.

not outside of the priority mail envelope, right? i went to post office earlier...does a short bond paper fits in a priority mail? it seems small to me...

It has to be inside the envelope or else it will get lost. It is part of your I-130 packet. The short bond paper will fit. You are sweating the small stuff. Relax.

i acquired my citizenship through child citizenship act of 2000...what should i put in on number number 13? where it ask for how did i acquired my citizenship

I think you should check the box by "Parents", then answer if you have a certificate of citizenship or not - if yes, then check that box and give the info.

If you are a US citizen, your 15 years old son would automatically become a US citizen when he enters the US with an immigrant visa and gets LPR status. Since he qualifies for US citizenship upon entry, the I-864 obligation is not required (because one of the condition for ending it is when the immigrant becomes a US citizen) so the US government allows you to file a waiver - that's the "w" part of the I-864w. The I-864w is a waiver of the I-864 because your son will be a US citizen when he enters the US on the immigrant visa.

This is not completely related to the original post, but wow, I hadn't seen this anywhere else yet. I am having trouble finding much information about the process for immigrating a child. Thanks for the information. Now I have to just make sure that my husband's son qualifies for this - I think he does, but the wording of the Child Citizen Act for a child living abroad is a little confusing.

I received a notice from email and text from USCIS says >> Your case has been accepted and routed to the USCIS National Benefits Center for processing. Within 7-10 days by standard mail you will receive your official Receipt Notice (Form I-797) with your Receipt Number << Is that mean they are processing it already and I just have to wait for decision or it just just something letting me know that they accepted the application already? it's form (Form I-797) and when I checked it from USCIS' site, it's on initial review status...thanks

anyways, what do i need to have ready for the next step? i only see instructions for spouse but I am petitioning my son

Does your son already have a Philippine passport? During the NVC stage you would need to submit a photocopy of his passport's bio page.

DANG! You applied less than a month ago and are already approved?!

I am expecting a few months of waiting.... we applied mid-November (USC husband petitioning for his son).

RE: Next steps, I don't know much since I am just now investigating. There isn't much info that is child-specific, but as far as I can tell, the process is similar (DS-3032 form, I-864W instead of I-864, DS-230 ... not sure at what time each of these is requested but I downloaded all of them and filled them out for my stepson to sign - he is 16 so he will sign himself). Just look them up online.

YES get on that passport! That might be your biggest holdup, time-wise.

Check out the Stand alone I-130 for stepchild(ren) thread here - it is VERY helpful, as it is a whole group of people immigrating children - the person who started the thread has just been approved. Most of the steps are the same, I think, except for the I-864W.

Hopefully someone will weigh in who has actually gone through the process. I agree it has been very hard to find out information about this process (compared with spouse immigration).
