Sorry just came back from dinner with the better half. To answer your questions:

You need a military ID to enter base, retired, active, reserve, spouse, dependent, or Government status.

You can't come in unless you have an ID, before 9/11 bases were a bit more laxed, I remember in Germany, the Germans would just come in whenever they felt like and tried to find soliders to buy them stuff from the base exchange and commissary. When Clinton bombed Somalia back in 1998, they added security to the gates(us with M16's) then about a year later they outsourced it to Securitas, a security detail made mostly of Germans and American Contractors. Some places here in the states were hit or miss when it came to coming on base without an ID, but then the towers fell, and that went away permanently. I was in DC when it happened, talk about crazy, you couldn't go to Burger King on base without being checked for ID.

Here we have a mix of civilian police and military that guard the gates, I do it once every three months for a couple hours in the morning. We don't have weapons, but the regular guards and police have taser guns, pistols, and some assault rifles inside the guard shack if they need them.

O yah I just woke up ... Btw I mention earlier not only military but also, trained sec guard, and law enforcement ( including those trained fire fighter) !!! Toinks you really need to read first!!!!!!

All I can say y'all pain in the ####!!!!!!! I'm not going to give up my best friend just bcoz of some psychopath running around in town and killing people....

My question is why u guys comparing the issues of restricting guns in the main land of USA from other countries?????? If u don't want to see a massive killing or rights to own a gun DO NOT migrate here..... Your not belong in main land...!!!!!! If they protect the president with high power gun why we can't protect our selves and families ???????

Let's see, how many on base in housing shooting have been in the news lately? Last one I remember was in Fort Hood, and wasn't even in housing. We have plenty of issues in housing, but worrying about someone pulling a gun out on you isn't one of them.

let's see - military base and personnel, more police presence, controlled access. many features that don't factor into the real world.

Did you know that Dillingham Alaska where men are men and what few woman are there are scared is on the same latitude as the north coast of Scotland? Being so far north one needs guns for food and the other goes to the supermarket just like everywhere else in the world.

got bears in scotland? :hehe:

2 guns max. One for defense and one too shoot food.

so what gun would you recommend if one's targets ranged between deer to squirrel for dinner?

Have you been to Scott? We have the same amount of police presence as a decent neighborhood. You could walk into the PX and open fire and it would take the same amount of time for the police to respond. We have problems just like everyone else, I've been places where fights have broken out over spouses and alcohol, money and just plain stupidity. But the difference is because no one is packing, you either man up and fight with your fist or you try to get to the root of the problem and avoid anyone having to go see 1st shirt in the morning. Could be the discipline we are instilled with, I don't know. But just like Fort Hood, shootings take place, just not so frequently as outside the gates.

I don't know why we are arguing, I didn't disagree with you.

it's a different environment than civilian life, i don't have to visit scott or some other random military base to know that. i've got 18 years as a navy brat, 20 years army service, and 12 years as an army contractor to speak with.

Wow, we've got more in common than I thought. I have 6 years Army time, and 12 years Navy time. I'm glad I live on base though, I don't mind those who have guns, I have an issue when those guns are abused on a large scale. I think something should be done. Not take all the guns but look at everything to find a viable solution.
