Hi All,

I have a question regarding sending original documents to NVC. i just have one copy of my birth and marriage certificate, i am little scared that if i send original and they get lost, then i wont have anything to show during my interview at Embassy.

Can anyone help me, what to do?? getting a certified copy means what???should i get photostated stamped by some gazetted officer or notarized, will that be accepted at NVC??

Certified copy can be obtained from the office where you could apply to get your original certificate. Use reliable courier service, everything will be fine. Better to send Original to avoid any conflict or RFE from NVC.

Gazetted attested copies will not work, certified copies has to be obtained from the office the certificate was originally issued. Considering how Indian govt. offices work,I suggest sending the originals(express mail with tracking number)

Hello Friends,

Thanks for the reply from you. I am also in the same boat and woryying about sending Original Marriage certificate to NVC. I know some advocates have the stamps with the printed note like "Attested and True copy" and followed by thier designation. If we get signed by such advocate on the copy and send the copy, would NVC accept the doc? PLease share your experience on this. as expressed earlier, if I loose the original Marriage certificate in the express mail or in subsequent moves from NVC to Consulate, then we will be in trouble to get the original certificate again. Also, they are accepting the copy of the Passport pages, would not they accept the attested copy of marriage certificate? Did any one has this experience? Again, than you for the information from your side.

it will probably not work

i didnt want to send originals either, but i got certified copies, they look exactly like the originals in color and stamps and everything, just it says on them that they are a copy.... that is what the NVC wants

knowing how long it takes for the documents to get there, for the NVC to review them, to make a decision and to schedule and interview... and consider if u dont send the right documents how long it would take for them to tell u that for u to send them the right documents.... it is not worth the risk, either get copies from ur city administration or send originals with dhl or ups... mind u, even if u do send originals, they will ask u for copies in the interview... they want to keep them on file... and if u send copies they will want the originals in the interview to compare

always include copies with whatever originals your are sending as that is the only time they are oblogated to return ur originals to you. They ALWAYS return ur originals at the interview but they need to have copies for their file no copy means they could keep ur originals instead.

so you either send ORIGINALS or CERTFIIED TRUE COPIES by the issuing agency.

GOD has been WONDERFUL!!!

Do what is required - send in the originals or certified copies issues by the agency in charge of those records.

Anything else will delay your case.

Your originals will be returned to you.

Do play around with your case. You have the instructions from US immigration. Follow those instructions exactly. That's how things are done in the US.
