How did you filipina wife change after you married her and took her to your home country?

Haha...I think she's trying to follow my instructions, she just has zero natural driving ability. She has problems keeping the car going striaght, it's from one side of the lane to the other and repeat over and over...and each time I feel I need to tell her "move over to the center of the lane, you're getting too close to that side"....then 10 seconds later she's on the other side! The concept of constant minor adjustments still isn't learned.

Also, when going around a tight corner, applying the brake in a calm even manner doesn't happen, it's either she hits the brake to soon and hard before the turn or she barely pushes the brake and she flys around the corner (that's when I just about ###### myself!).

And all this was in an area with almost no traffic, I can't even imagine her in traffic!

Yeah, I think she's going to need some in-depth professional lessons when she gets here.

The roaming all over the highway thing happens to me also. A friend explained it was becuse they are always driving around Pedi-cabs, people, rice, pigs etc in the PI. I also get the does not stop when i say stop thing. Finally I am screaming stop, then she gets mad ?

My wife had an issue keeping straight at higher speeds. I carefully explained she needs to be looking further down the road when she drives faster. The weaving all over stopped as she got the hang of looking further. It came back when we bought her a Ford Focus, it had much tighter steering than the Durango she started learning to drive here in. My wife slowed at stop signs, but was constantly not stopping. I kept telling her she'd get a ticket or fail her test but it never sunk in. The driving instructor we hired told her "Stop means StoP" and the rolling stops ended. Why couldn't I just say that? Heck it probably wouldn't have worked coming from me  I have to say, the driving instructor was a great investment. He really knew how to get her focused on what would really be tested. Much less stress for me to, although she wanted me to ride along to give her confidence, I mainly sat in the back seat reading a book.

On one of her driving lessons, there was a mother duck crossing the road with a whole brood of ducklings following. My wife didn't slow down in the least and suddenly the instructor reaches over and grabs to wheel to swerve so we missed them. Turns out she just thought they were birds that would fly away as she got closer. We still laugh over that. You just don't see ducks in the Philippines, if there ever was any, they've ate them to extinction.

I see them in the Asian grocery stores all over around here. Sometimes they're a bit longer handled, but the same basic broom sweep part. I haven't noticed the real stiff bristle ones here, that my wife used to use in the driveway, sidewalks and grass in the Philippines. But you don't need to sweep the grass here. The Asian groceries also have the dust pans with the long handle, which beats the heck out of the standard ones in the USA.

Yep

The driving instructor we hired told her "Stop means StoP" and the rolling stops ended. Why couldn't I just say that?

It won't matter what you say. The driving instructor is viewed as an authority, so they obey. The husband is just a husband. They dismiss what the husband says as the default rule, and replace it with what they think themselves until they are convinced otherwise. Here's one: to keep the car going straight, make the steering wheel straight. Instead of looking at the road, look at the steering wheel! You don't even know what kind of bizarre premises she's working with that are replacing what you are trying to teach.

Another extremely annoying habit to break her of: if asked a question, throw out any old answer and read the husband's face to see if it is the right answer instead of thinking it through.

RunHerschelRun - exactly so. They will disobey, then get angry at you for raising your voice. When my wife finally admitted the entire problem was her bad attitude, all of that stopped. What choice do you have if when you successively say "slow down, slow down!!, slow down!!!" They're endangering your lives out of sheer stubborness, and have no right to be angry.

This explodes the myth you hear about Filipinas being "submissive". They're very cooperative when they WANT to be. But just try teaching them to drive and you'll quickly see how stubborn they are.

That's a good point kev_n_jena - a small automatic passenger car is much better for them to learn in.

I love it how my fiancee is picking up on my sense of humor, very sarcastic. Last night I was humming Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer while on the phone with her as I was looking something up on the internet to pass along to her. Without ANY delay she says:

"Honey what is that you're singing?"

"Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer! Why?"

"Oh no! Santa has decided to cancel Christmas because of your singing!" :bonk:

I could NOT stop laughing for the next 10 minutes!

I'm so proud of her! ;)
