Family acknowledgement of our marriage letters

Hi. I was just wondering, I read somewhere that it is good to have some friends and family to write letters stating they are aware of the marriage and it is a true marriage of love. My question is does these letters I will have some family and friends write on my husbands and my behalf need also to be notarized or is just signing and writing their address and phone number sufficient enough? And any advice oh what these letters should state exactly? Thanks in advance for any advice/answers.

Keep in mind that notaries have zero to do with the content of documents. They dont even read them. Notaries verify signatures; nothing more. For that reason it does no good to use them which is why there is no requirement to do so.

The point isn't the content as far as the notary is concerned, its that its verification that the person who wrote it signed it.

How would a notary know who wrote a document unless they watched them write it? Notaries verify signatures on documents every day that are not written by the people signing them.

The value of any of these affidavits is reduced by the fact that anyone can say anything about any subject without actual knowledge of the subject matter.

Unless immigration decides to check, which they may or may not. It's a personal decision, my lawyer said just do it to be on the safe side. So I did...

Do as you like :) with the consulate I didnt want to leave anything unturned.

The purpose of notarization is to prevent fraud and forgery. The notary acts as an official and unbiased witness to the identity of person who comes before the notary for a specific purpose. Thus it does not matter who writes the statement if you have a written statement with a signature block that includes your name the notary verifies your identity and you sign the statement in their presence. Look in the I-130 and I-129F instructions one of those gives you guidance on what to include for third parties to attest having knowledge for example the co-mingling of funds to support a bonafide marriage.

Good Luck,

Thank you for all your input :) I will have my family notarize their letters, and also search in the I-130 and I-129 instructions to see what to have written. One other thing. When should I submit the letters, at what time in this final part of the process if anyone knows? Thanks in advance!

The norm is that they are front loaded when you turn in the I-130 but since you are at NVC they may not take it since they deal with getting agent appointed, getting the affidavit of support and the visa application and all the civil documents. It would be nice if they took them and forwarded them to the consulate with the rest of the petition and application for visa perhaps you can call and ask. Otherwise I say make sure your hubby has them at the interview.

Good luck...

This thread is discussing affidavits, and a new requirement for them... needing a copy of birth cert, or passport biographical page.... I have seen on the site that we can submit more evidence with the NVC package, and that it does get forwarded. I know you don't send it with the affidavit of support.

Hope this helps.
