Newtown Shooting

My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the victims of the Newtown CT shooting. My husband is brand new to this country and he has a total look of disbelief on his face, as do I, but he is not used to this kind of violence from where he is from, especially involving children. I told him no one here knows why this kind of thing happens, and no matter how many times senseless violence takes place in this country, on any scale, we never get used it it either. So so sad. God help those poor families.

Our munchkin is in 1st Grade and we were both horrified by what happened at Sandy Brook school.

Because of some past history, the better half called the school, to make sure things were okay and to find out what the children might find out from the school. She was heartened to discover that she was just one of many.

We also found out that the school was making sure no news of the incident reached the children, so that their parents could deal with the subject how they chose. We aren't telling the munchkin, there has been no news on the TV and we haven't talked about it. If the munchkin hears about it, we will answer questions truthfully and try to provide reassurance, and make sure, to the best of our ability, that life goes on as normal.

Horrific as yesterday was, as a Brit, this reminded me all too much of the massacre at Dunblane, where 17 children aged 5 and 6, and 1 teacher were killed in similar circumstances.

The munchkin may not understand why, but there were extra big hugs, yesterday, just because.
