  1. 1. What should the national response be to this tragedy?

    • There shouldn't be a national response at all.

No in this case arming a bunch of 5 year olds would not have made a difference and I am not one of those that thinks I could have saved the day .

Your right about your shotgun and that was the point I was trying to get you to see. The assault weapon ban was silly and those guns are no more dangerous than your double barrel shotgun in most situations. Also the fact that CBS was playing up the fact that one of the guns was a SIg "like the secret service carries" was idiotic media sensationalism.

Don't try to make me appear to agree with you lol The assault weapons ban is NOT silly. You're right that I'm not an encyclopedia of firearms, nor do I care to be. I have what I need to take care of business. But, I DON'T need an assault rifle nor would my husband. WHY? Because it's there? If assault weapons aren't dangerous (which is a ludicrous argument), then why aren't the military issued double barreled shotguns?? Can you answer that one? :luv:

All guns are dangerous. Your shotgun is an assault weapon. I own Bushmaster Car-15. It shoots a .223 bullet. It is no more or less dangerous than a ruger Mini-14, but my Bushmaster looks more like a rambo weapon. That's it.

The military does issue shotguns. Shotguns were one of the weapons of choice for people walking point in Vietnam.

P.S. I never said Assault weapons were not dangerous I said they are no more dangerous than many other weapons. Also what you would call an assault weapon is not really an assault weapon.

What are you even TALKING about? The apocalypse? Now who is watching too much TV?

Incidentally, I've noticed a direct correlation between avid Walking Dead viewers and avid gun proponents...just sayin. The zombies aren't really coming ...but it's just a show I promise.

Not talking about the Apocalypse but if society did break down and you don't have guns you will be a victim. It is not a far fetched idea, that society could break down. Heck if the lights go off for 1 day all hell breaks loose in our major cities.

As for the walking dead. I love that show. It is filmed right here in Ga. I would be an older fluffier version of Darell.

What I am calling an assault weapon is what the gun seller himself in the video I posted called it. And that's what it IS. They were previously ONLY issued to military and law enforcement until the mid 80s. So that wasn't MY interpretation...that is the gun retailer's DESCRIPTION of the firearm.

Gun Control is a good great thing..

It goes like this ... Breathe, Relax,, Aim Squeeze,,

It's an assault style weapon. They are semi-auto weapons. Of course even the Army does not use automatic M-16's any longer, because in most cases fully automatic fire results in poor aiming and waste of ammunition.

What I am trying to get you to see is that just because a weapon looks a certain way does not make it tactically any more dangerous than many weapons that do not fit the politically generated term "assault weapon".

A perfect example is the fact that the shooter today used a Sig, which the liberal media made a huge deal out of the fact it is the same weapon used by the secret service. However it terms of the lethal capabilities of the weapon it means nothing, it's still just a semi-automatic handgun, and no more or less lethal than any other semi auto pistol of the same caliber.

He was probably using the Federal legal description of the 90s. Assault weapons were generally defined by aesthetic rather than functional features.

Because you have to reload every 2 shots and the ammo is bulky.

Bingo :-) That's the point I was trying to make, thanks. It would make them cumbersome for combat. If the point is to do mass damage quickly...the assault weapon is needed.

Which part of "Shall not be infringed" do you all not understand in the second amendment of the constitution?

So you think everyone should be able to have access to whatever kind of guns and however many they want? No rules?

Well, I guess I've said my piece(pun intended) on the subject. It's exhausting having the same arguments over and over with the same result. There's a name for it too... oh yeah INSANITY lol

I guess maybe I'll pop in when the NeXT mass killing occurs. We'll go around again.

I really want to say that I don't need convincing. I think the ones that really need to be convinced that we need no gun control are those pesky gun violence victims. They are really convinced for some reason that we DO need gun control measures. I've seen several in the media from Columbine, Aurora, and some others, speaking about it. I guess they'll do anything to get their face on television again. :bonk:

My uncle was a tunnel rat and his preferred weapon was a sawed off shotgun with a pistol grip, very effective and deadly in tight spaces. I think they need to focus some of this attention on early detection and intervention of children and teenagers who show the potential for mental illness also, perhaps stop giving out participation trophies and allow children to learn at an early age that life is not fair and not everyone is a winner. Then maybe these young adults will not totally freak out when they get a taste of reality and be more capable of dealing with their issues without medication or violence.

Education is what you get from reading the small print. Experience is what you get from not reading it.

I'd like to see that regardless of the motive behind this shooting.

My first thought though, when I heard he was twenty years old, was this person was afflicted with schizophrenia. I've known a couple people with the disease and they could be completely irrational and void of any sense of reality at times. Just a thought.

Well, if the name isn't impressive , how about a visual. Can you imagine a kindergarten teacher that would want one of these? :bonk:

where do you get the idea that's the specific pistol model used?

You're so right! These children had their right to keep and bear arms, guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment, trampled by Lib fools who think Kindergarten is not old enough to have the protection of a gun. What are Libs thinking???
