  1. 1. What should the national response be to this tragedy?

    • There shouldn't be a national response at all.

And what happened in Britain after Dunblane? I remember it well.

And it will be a conversation that comes in the coming weeks and we'll all see where it leads.

we're far more capable of stepping up our game in regards to mental health than we are to ridding the world of weaponry.

No, I think - sad as is it - as a nation we're far more capable of just dealing with this senseless slaughtering of innocent civilians - kids and all - than to tackle the root causes. God forbid we do anything to protect life. We have done our duty on that end when we drive around with a "Chose Life" license plate.

We won't have the same response. That's okay. We're not Britain and we need an American conversation about this and an American solution.

Agreed. Unfortunately.

Guns have been around in this country since day one. What I question is, what has happened to society that these shootings have become a common occurrence? Guns used to be easier to get decades ago and these types of shooting rarely happened. Now they are harder to get and the shootings occur on a regular basis. Why?

What is the root cause in your opinion ?

I've got nothing political to say unless someone feels compelled to politicize what I'm about to say...

Life is fragile and we humans are fragile. We may be resilient, but we'll break given enough pressure. Given our fragility, we should acknowledge it and not pretend that we are durable.

Exactly ! When I was a network Admin the first question we always asked, when a system problem occurred was... What has changed ??

Obviously in this case the Gun part has no changed. It's fairly basic very obvious logic .

Getting rid of the weaponry and their depictions in media, etc., would do a lot to improve mental health.

I don't think anyone has a real clue what that will be yet. I just hope it is something that actually works for the sake of our children.

A high stress lifestyle with family breakdowns and a complete disconnection from nature.

I don't like guns. I'd be happy if they were all banned but in a situation like this there is clearly more to it than just banning weapons. Why are there so many people like this? Where is society going wrong? Is it because young people are desensitized to violence because they see it so often in movies and video games? Is there anything that we can do about it or is this it? We just have to get used to events like this happening more and more often.

I don't really want to live in that kind of world.

This feels like Dunblane all over again. Heart breaking and soul destroying when it is ones so young.
