  1. 1. What should the national response be to this tragedy?

    • There shouldn't be a national response at all.

And it's been proven and is still being proved that stricter gun laws prevent nothing. Use google.

And yes he was correct in what he said. You would have to know about this country and how it came about to know that. Unlike Canada, the US broke free of the Brits and we did that with guns. We also are wary of our government. This is not Canada, and it is not a socialist state. It is the USA.

Stop implying that because I wasn't born here, I don't know anything. It's stupid, offensive, and makes you look bad.

i don't understand why it's so hard to comprehend that when someone is in this state of mind, to carry out something as heinous as this, they will find a way. stop making it about gun control. let's figure out why more and more individuals are jumping off the deep end and taking innocent people with them.

But then they should have triple back ground check and pee test to see if they are responsible enough to own a gun.

And what would this accomplish? The guns were legal and (if reported correctly registered to his mother). This guy was hell bent on mayhem, and to go out with what he considered a blaze of glory.

He was the embodiment of EVIL, and probably violated a hundred laws in the commission of this act.

Mental health isn't taken seriously. There are people (a few of them here, even) who honestly believe mental health issues are just a myth and kids need to stop being sissies.

There are things we could do in America that would lead to more people being happier. But those things are largely impossible to enact nationwide given our federal structure. And yeah, those things would be suspiciously European, therefore automatically suspect.

events like today indicate that there is no myth about it. i agree that mental health should be taken far more seriously along with a methodology and database to keep firearms out of the hands of those deemed mentally ill by certified professionals - however, it remains to be seen where he obtained the firearms.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Saying "you have to know this country" to understand things is implying that I don't. And then bringing Canada into it for no apparent reason. Knock it off.

Its defintely not the guns thats the issue. I forgot which country it is...maybe sweden...where majority of the citizens are armed and they dont have crazy things like this happening. Its defintely the CRAZY PEOPLE that are responsible for these mass shootings. Unfortunately as a country we cannot control these lunatics hence the need to control their weapons of destruction. what else are the people to do???? If you can't control the crazies then control their weapons, its just common sense....

lol definitely not a scandinavian country.

also note that most folks who hold these opinions in their extreme form, in fact, have no children of their own. experience is everything.
