Who Needs to Pay the Fee

Any individual who on or after February 1, 2013 receives an immigrant visa package from a United States consulate or embassy abroad (including Canada and Mexico) will pay the USCIS Immigrant Fee.

guys i have question

we have our(me-my bro-my parents) immigrant visa interview on 25 jan 2013..at Mumbai consulate.

if i get all visa packets(mysterious brown envelope) and passports with visa stamp before 1st feb 2013 .,then still we have to pay total 660 $ (165*4) ?

we are planing to immigrant usa on 15 feb 2013..

So no, unless you get 221g which could take up to few weeks then that would be after Feb 1. by then you'll have to pay the extra fee

So, not to sound too stupid BUT does this mean when our visa is approved we have to pay this extra charge? It sounds like you pay this new fee when they issue the GC. Am I reading this wrong??

Yes, we will pay this new fee in order to get our GC. No payment, no GC.

The AOS fee is $1070, and this new fee of $165 does not apply to someone adjusting status in the US.

LOL... I have 4 AOS's to pay for after our wedding :) ... Maybe were burdened with stopping the "fiscal cliff" from occuring

Some people (like us) paid $404 towards IV fee (as opposed to the current $230). I seriously hope they don't make us pay $165 again.

04/14/2011: NVC Case received

04/19/2011: AOS fee paid

05/07/2011: IV Fee paid

05/13/2011: AOS received

06/21/2011: Case completed at NVC

12/19/2012: Became US citizen and request sent to upgrade from F2A to IR/1

01/13/2013: Case completed (again!!)

04/02/2013: Interview (Approved)

I think the new motto for immigration should be "Welcome to the US! Now pay up or get pushed off the cliff with the rest of our Citizens!" :thumbs:
