Good day everyone! I just got married here in Cali and I'm planning to apply for AOS. I just want to ask to those who already did their AOS if it is required to have another medical exam from another civil surgeon? I read some of the post that they did the medical exam for their AOS some pays 300 bucks for the medical and some just paid 25 bucks.. Others did not have their medical exam and they didn't have an RFE. I'm confused. I hope anyone could enlighten me. TIA

Congratulations for your wedding. I followed the instructions on VJ Assembling the I-485 Package: Checklist and did not get any RFE.

"I-693, Medical Examination of Aliens Seeking Adjustment of Status.I-693, Medical Examination of Aliens Seeking Adjustment of Status. If you are a K-1, K-2, K-3 or K-4 visa holder the I-693 instructions state that you are not required to have another medical examination as long as your Form I-485 is filed within one year of your overseas medical examination. If you are missing any shots from your overseas medical a I-693 vaccination transcription is required to be completed by seeing a Civil Surgeon to have certain portions of the I-693 completed and have the Civil Surgeon certify the form (sealing the original in an envelope and giving you a copy)"

I submitted a copy of my vaccination form and there was not problem with it. I went to the medical examination in my home country in April, submitted my paperwork in September and last week had my AOS interview. Long story short, I really think that if your wife is not missing any vaccine and her medical examination was in less than a year everything should be fine.

I hope this information helps you out.

1. Some people have gotten an RFE for not having a civil surgeon transcribe their DS-3025 onto an I-693. Chinook played it safe and had a civil surgeon transcribe her DS-3025 onto an I-693. It cost about $35 and it took 15 minutes at the civil surgeon's office. Chinook included the I-693 with her AOS packet.

2. If a civil surgeon wants to give you a medical exam or some more vaccinations, keep on shopping for a civil surgeon who knows the drill.
