How Long Did your Immigration From Canada Take Start to Finish?

Just wondering what the stories of others are and how long it took from the date you sent your I-130 to the date of your approval so you could move to the US?

My husband is Canadian, I'm American (by birth). I came here and have been in Canada legally on visitor visas since June 2009. We were married in Sept of 2009 but have known each other since 2006 (and we have emails as proof). We had a son born on August 31, 2012. I'm pretty sick of it here, so we want to move back to California, where home is for me. So just kind of wanting to get an idea of how long it'll take, as we're both eager to move ASAP!

I'm still waiting for NOA2 (I was sent to a service center). I filed June 7, 2012. But new applications are being sent to NBC now instead of to Service Centers so this will speed the process up a lot for new applicants. People who filed after me are getting their NOA2 approvals already and can probably expect to receive their visa to enter the US around 4 months after NOA2 (NOA2 is currently taking between 60 - 90 days for filers sent to NBC), depending on when NVC receives their petition.

We filed the I-130 on Monday! Sorry to hear your application is taking awhile, but I am happy newer applicants are processing quickly! I'd be so happy to be in California again before long!

Generally it takes 10 months from start to finish, however due to the recent changes things have been moving along very quickly for some people.

You will need to get a CRBA for your son if you haven't already: http://canada.usembassy.gov/consular_services/birth-abroad.html You can get it done in Calgary so it's not as big of a deal as the IR-1 Visa travel wise (your husband will interview in Montreal). After you have that, you can order his US passport for travel.

Please note that due to the recent changes some of us have gotten requests for the beneficiary's birth certificates prior to receiving our NOA2. Your husband will need his long form birth certificate (with both parents listed). If he doesn't have one, he will need to order one. If he was born in Alberta then he can order one at one the AB Registries locations. It goes a lot quicker if he has the form filled out prior to going. You may need to have a co-sponsor who will sign off on an Affidavit of Support (I-864) for your husband.

I just received our NOA2 after only 40 days so there are definitely some of us very fortunate members who are moving through very fast. I'm hoping the next part moves as quickly for us!

I'm not sure If I've asked you this before but, was your petition approved by NBC or a local office??
