Say, lots of sub-par growth in these Right to Work states. Your source, by the way. Michigan did pretty well not being a right to work state. I'm sure they'll see a decline now that they have joined the race to the bottom.

I didn't include it as a RTW state in my analysis of 2011.

Results:

2010-2011

Non-RTW states grew more than RTW states by an average of .32%. I have 77% confidence non-RTW grew faster than RTW in this year.

2009-2010

Non-RTW states grew more than RTW states by an average of .28%. I have 76% confidence non-RTW grew faster than RTW in this year.

2008-2009

RTW states grew more than non-RTW states by an average of .73%. I have 83% confidence RTW grew faster than non-RTW in this year.

2007-2008

RTW states grew more than non-RTW states by an average of .36%. I have 77% confidence RTW grew faster than non-RTW in this year.

2006-2007

RTW states grew more than non-RTW states by an average of .44%. I have 87% confidence RTW grew faster than non-RTW in this year.

Overall, I think the results for whether or not RTW grow faster than non-RTW is inconclusive. Unfortunately, my minitab isn't working properly so I've been dependent on Microsoft Excel and I don't really have the time to go through all of the data over the past 20 years, but it seems that RTW did better during an inflationary economy and non-RTW did better during a recessionary economy. There may not be correlation, though.

Over the past 5 years, if you were to pick a RTW at random on a random year, and a non-RTW at random on the same year, the probability that the RTW would grow faster than the non-RTW would be about .588, but it might depend on how well or poor the economy is doing. It would be a nice little economic experiment to determine if it depends on how well/poor the economy is doing.

RTW does not grow economies. There's no evidence that it does. It's just that simple.

I/We do not know of any evidence that it grow economies. This does not mean that it doesn't. You don't want to make a type I error.

If I can get my minitab up and running, we might be able to see if there is a correlation. But there might not be.

If there was any actual evidence out there that RTW actually grows economies, we'd know about it. You can take that to the bank.

That's not necessarily true.

There might be correlations to inflationary economies and RTW states. And there might be a correlation to recessionary economies and non-RTW states, for instance. Man doesn't know all there is to know. Sometimes it just takes some research.

Of course it is. We wouldn't be having this debate about right-to-work or no right-to-work if there was evidence one way or the other that right to work either aids or harms the economy.

Yes we would. People hate to be wrong, so they justify what they believe even if the stats indicate they are incorrect. People are not as logical as we would like them to be.

But "inconclusive" would be the correct conclusion so far. It wouldn't be scientific to reject the null hypothesis by stating that there is no correlation.

Canadian on Strike. Just thought I would share how we roll in the Great White North. (PS - not sure the person is really Canadian, I just thought it was funny)

The claim made was that right to work improves the economy. There is NO evidence to support that claim. That's all I am saying. If "inconclusive" is all you got, then my statement remains correct.

RTW does not grow economies. There's no evidence that it does. It's just that simple.

"RTW does not grow economies" is not the same as "results are inconclusive as to whether or not RTW grows the economy or not." I'm starting to lose any faith I had left in humanity at this point. lol.
