This VISA journey brings all of us to the US, from other countries, and there are excellent Forums & Portals on this site from all over the world.

Once in the US, it would be nice to have a STATE Forum or Portal on this site.

Just saying... it would be nice to just click & there it is, a STATE forum or portal!

Instead of searching everywhere... (yes.. I'm aware of where to look)

Mahalo.. (thank you... from Maui... HAWAII)

& Thank you VJ's...

Happy Holidays

I am not sure it would be necessary/ very useful/ very busy. If you want to see if you can find some people in the same area, you could post in the Off Topic or regional forum areas (and I have met a couple of VJers in person who moved to my area), but just because two immigrants live in the same state doesn't mean they will have a lot in common, other than the actual visa part.

There's already an area on the user portal for VJ-ers living near your area based on the USCIS office location, it seems. However, it also looks for people with that same USCIS location and country. For example, I have a list showing VJ-ers in the Portland area with the UK as their country. Perhaps it would be possible to remove the country from the query and just have the list include those based on location.

Part One: The K-1 Visa Journey:

USCIS Receipt of I-129F: January 24, 2012 | Petition Approval: June 15, 2012 (No RFEs)
Interview: October 24, 2012 - Review | Visa Delivered: October 31, 2012

Part Two: Entry and Adjusting Status:

POE: November 18, 2012 (at SFO) - Review
Wedding: December 1, 2012 | Social Security: New cards received on December 7, 2012.
AOS Package (I-485/I-765/I-131) NOA1: February 19, 2013 | Biometrics Appt.: March 18, 2013
AP/EAD Approved: April 29, 2013 | Card Received: May 6, 2013 | AOS Interview Appt.: May 16, 2013 - Approved Review Card Received: May 24, 2013

Great idea..

I'll try posting in "Off Topic".

Not sure about 'Regional'. Have a feeling it would get moved to off topic anyway.

Don't want to meet anyone in person, that's not why I'm on this site. Just want to communicate regarding the VISA process, with people in the same state. *I know... I can find them... under the USCIS page. I was just stating an idea, opinion. That's all.

The state of Hawaii, is a little different, as there are islands involved. The main USCIS office is on Oahu, in Honolulu.

In my case, I'm on a different island (Maui), so hopefully posting something in the "Off Topic" category will unite the islands... sort of speak.

Nice idea. I can add this to the portal system and allow you to also filter by member location.

So I started this and realized we have a small glitch that hold this back right now. The "local data" is not well defined. So the location is user defined and hard to effectively sort by. Ideally I need a "state" and "city" field. I can add this but it will only be valid going forward and require people to input the info...

I can probably "parse" old data and if anyone has a local info with a "states" name I can copy that over but beyond that it gets complicated. That said the sooner I add these fields the better.

Any ideas?

I'd vote for just adding the city and state* and let users enter that information going forward. That way, you're starting with data from active users at least.

*Perhaps make the state a drop-down field and let people opt to enter a city if they want. Having drop-down cuts down on having to account for typos and/or if someone opts to use an abbreviation vs. spelling out the name of their state.

I added a standardized State input and a flexible city input. I also cleaned up a few other items. The city field is basically the old "location" field as most people used it that way already. The state is blank right now for everyone. The local office field is now a drop down list versus before it was a user input (and people put a range of things in there).

Nice! Just updated my profile to use the drop-down fields.
