Film Title --> Innocence of Muslims

So that's at least 1 arrest in the USA, but for a parole violation

then the sentencing in Egypt,

all on folk involved with the film production and/or financing.

Maybe foolish, but all men (no matter where they are) are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights. Free speech being one of them. Whether other countries recognize this innate right is irrelevant.

That is a view that only gained acceptance during the Enlightenment and although it is enshrined in the US Constitution. As such you can't expect or presume these rights will be observed on other countries. Whether other countries recognize this innate right is irrelevant only if you are in the US. The US Constitution can't afford anyone any rights outside the US.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

It does not matter if they are backwards or not. You can't expect the US Constitution to afford Americans any rights outside the US. It is really not rocket science.

I understand. I agree with you. These rights are still innate, though. Therefore, no matter what is observed by other nations, it is injustice should these inalienable rights not be observed (Justice being objective, not subject to the whims of society). That was my only point.

It does not, but people have HUMAN rights.

As far as I can see from the article, the man serving a prison sentence is an Egyptian Christian who resides in Egypt.

I'm sure Hitler thought the Jews' human rights weren't important either.....

And I could not agree with you more. It is unjust and calling it is all we can do.

In the US people have human rights but that does not make it a law in the entire planet, unfortunately. Consider that the entire notion of human rights is of a legal nature and subject to the legislative of each country.

Except the fact that Egypt has signed and ratified multiple human rights treaties as has every state that is a member of the UN.

Human rights is a global concept.

In that case, he should have recourse in case his human rights are abridged while in prison.

Sorry I just realized that you made a statement of ability, when I meant to agree with a statement of permission. Just a minor technicality. I'm sure you still agree.

You have to be careful wearing a hijab in the US. You never know when your going to get sentenced to three years in prison for it, or even worse beat to death like some Copts in Egypt. Americans can be brutal at times, especially their courts. Why I just read the other day where a Muslim was sentenced to three years in prison by US courts for playing a film about Jesus that the US courts deemed anti Christian.

Nah, I just have to be careful of those close minded people who burn Mosques down, or beat up those who look different than they do...

True, that's why I wear a hat to cover my hair instead of hijab........so the bigots, hypocrites, and Islamophobes can't judge me by my religion, which is none of their business anyway :D

With all the mosque being burnt down in this country (where and when), and all the attacks on Muslims (where and when again), I'm sure all the Muslims that have immigrated to this country in the past two decades would feel much safer back in the countries they migrated from. Maybe the US government should offer them a free ticket back home. I'm sure they would jump all over that offer. I mean it's safer for them this way and it's all about safety.
