Hey everyone, So I've been referring to this recent post, HERE to prepare for the next step of the K1 visa process. NOA1 was received in early November, we now wait for NOA2. I'm going to visit my fiancee in January and I wanted to bring all the paperwork she would need so I don't have to mail it to her. Few questions though,

1. Employment Letter: What should this say ? What are the reviewing agents seeking to learn upon reading this letter ?

2. 2011 Taxes: I have my 2011 tax documents, but what about 2012 taxes ? Obviously filing time for 2012 isn't here quite yet, but our visa process will continue into 2013 and through tax season and after I've filed...at what point during the year 2013 will they start considering 2012 "last years" taxes ? For example, if my fiancee's interview is in June 2013, will they expect her to have my tax information for 2012 ?

3. Remittance Receipts: What are these ?

4. Engagement Receipt: What is this ?

5. I'm right on the border of the poverty line so I'm going to have a co-sponsor just in case. Do I need to have all these documents for both of us then (sponsor and co sponsor) ?

Thank you in advance.

Anyone ? I'm especially curious about 2012 taxes and whether or not they will expect to see it. And employment letters. Also, my employment situation is unique. Is it advisable to write my own letter explaining my senario ? Im employed by two jobs, one seasonal, and I'm also an entrepreneur, which explains why someone with my career qualifications (Education degree) isn't employed in a school district but has the potential to do so.

I'm going to visit my fiancee in January and I wanted to bring all the paperwork she would need so I don't have to mail it to her. Few questions though,

1. Employment Letter: What should this say ? What are the reviewing agents seeking to learn upon reading this letter ? Review the step-by-step K-1 guide, located in the "Guides" section, accessible at the top of the forum page, for details.

2. 2011 Taxes: I have my 2011 tax documents, but what about 2012 taxes ? Obviously filing time for 2012 isn't here quite yet, but our visa process will continue into 2013 and through tax season and after I've filed...at what point during the year 2013 will they start considering 2012 "last years" taxes ? Likely after April 15, 2013 For example, if my fiancee's interview is in June 2013, will they expect her to have my tax information for 2012 ? Likely

3. Remittance Receipts: What are these ? Huh? Are you talking about paycheck stubs? If so, yes. Please elaborate.

4. Engagement Receipt: What is this ? Are you referring to engagement ring receipt? If so, optional, refer to the Guides. Please elaborate.

5. I'm right on the border of the poverty line so I'm going to have a co-sponsor just in case. Do I need to have all these documents for both of us then (sponsor and co sponsor) ? Review the pertinent guides sections speaking about the I-134 requirements, co-sponsors, etc., including the FAQs. Also, review recent threads, this is a frequently asked question on this forum.

Thank you in advance.

Welcome to the forum.

Yes, they will want to see employment letters. It may be advisable to write a letter, as you describe, explaining your employment situation. USCIS/DoS have seen all manner of employment situations. The financial information is somewhat time sensitive. You will want to give them as up-to-date information as possible. Submission of "stale" documents may result in an RFE or denial, that would delay your plans.

Good luck on your visa journey.

An employment letter could be a letter from your employer saying "John Smith" is currently employed at "Widgets 'R Us" as a full time general labourer." I think it should be dated closer to your fiancee's interview time. Same with any pay stubs etc. If you do your taxes early, you should get your tax statement back in time for the interview.

Engagement receipt would be a copy of your engagement ring receipt if you have purchased one, but it is not a requirement. And yes, you would need the financial info for both sponsor and co sponsor.

Thank you for your responses.

A&B:

In my original post I gave a link to a thread that asked a question about documents needed Post NOA1. The first response given gave a long list of documents. Of these the remittance receipts and engagement receipts were listed as necessary documents. I didn't know what those were so I was hoping someone could explain.

It looks like the post you are referring to was a list of someone's documents that they were sending with their application. They were just supporting documents, not required. It is not required to buy your fiancee a ring or show the receipt, but if you had, you could provide a copy of the receipt. It would just be further evidence of a bona fide relationship, but again not required.

The VJ forum Guides posted on this site are the tried and true forms and methods that have been followed and have worked for countless numbers of folks (including us) on their visa journeys. Since this is essentially a DIY site, I will defer to you the opportunity to compare and contrast anyone's individual list to the thorough information presented in this forum's Guides.

Happy trails on your immigration journey.
