We used to skype a lot until she bought an iPhone. Since I already have an iPhone, nowadays we keep in touch mostly via FaceTime. It makes the entire process seem like she has a local number that I can call anytime (well not really ;)). While on 3g, if you make a FaceTime call and put your phone against your ear, your video feed shuts down so you are only using audio channels which does not eat up all your phone's internet :P

We use Messages to text each other for free. The plus side is if she or me is near a computer (mac), those text messages turn into a full fledged chat, maybe even a FaceTime call.

As a backup option, I also have MagicJack. It works wonders. It basically gives you a US number that you can call anytime. Watch your minutes though. We usually wait for nights and weekends. MagicJack also has an iPhone app, which works decently even on an EDGE/GPRS connection!

http://www.google.com/talk/ <---- For voice only chat it's tough to beat Google Talk. If you have slow internet and you just want to talk this is the only way to go imo.

http://www.oovoo.com/home.aspx <------ For webcam w/voice I use ooVoo. Great clarity/picture, multiple user languages, clean interface and three people can be on cam at the same time with the free download. There is ooVoo for Android, Windows, etc...

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."
