I checked my status online and i see that it says 'Your I485, APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS is now ready for interview scheduling.' I am not sure why is there an interview for I-485. I dont know what to do. One thing is i did miss my biometric appointment by a week, i was able to give the biometrics later with no issues. Has anyone experienced this before? Please let me know that what should i do or how do i handle this.

You are adjusting from a H-1B visa, right? Your I-485 is based on what? Marriage to a US citizen? Another family member? Please provide more info and complete your timeline so we can answer you.

There ARE interviews for I-485, although it depends on cases, but interviews for I-485 are pretty common.

There's nothing to do right now, wait for an interview letter, that's all.

Unless you adjusted from a K-1 you will almost definitely have an interview.

Yes, so you're adjusting your status (from a H-1 visa) based on a marriage to a US citizen. It is normal that you get an interview. You and your US spouse will be required to attend. Wait for the interview letter in the mail.

I thought this was the order:

i) Biometrics

ii) Receive EAD/Travel Document ( if approved)

iii) Interview

iv) GC

When will i receive my EAD?

The EAD and AP are usually approved 2 to 3 months after your NOAs date, which is generally 1-2 months after the biometrics appointment.

But if you are scheduled for an interview early, you may never receive your EAD/AP (if approved at your interview anyways, your green card will serve as a work and travel authorization).

You're just lucky. You got an interview very quickly. You would always of had an interview but generally it takes longer to get an interview than it does to get you EAD/AP. Again, you're just lucky!

It usually is in the order you described, but sometimes they change it up a bit. blush.gif So, It may not be the norm, but it's possible.

Agree!

Lately, it seems that USCIS notifications, schedules, time frames, schemes, etc. have been all over the board. Some folks have gotten quick approvals, some not; some get an interview, some do not (K-1), some get online account updates out of order, some never get any updates at all.

This is likely due to a large influx in workload at the service centers, here is but another indicator:

YMMV.

Happy trails on your immigration journey.

It depends on the IO's decision. Some approve on the spot and you receive your GC a week or 2 later. Some others want to review more carefully the case and it takes longer.
