Waiting on Domex...

Or I guess we're acutally waiting on the consulate...

My mother-in-law was approved for her IR5 visa on November 19th. She was asked to pay Domex and return with her passport and one additional document (they wanted my proof of residency even though I am not the petitioner and really had nothing to do with the case... frustrating). She turned everything two days later on November 21st. Anyone know processing times for Domex these days? They said 3-4 weeks and it's been 3 weeks today. We were really hoping it would have come through by now because she's supposed to fly here on the 15th... we might be re-scheduling that flight :/. My husband is down there so if it comes through between now and Friday he can drive down to get it, instead of waiting on it to arrive in Santiago. Is there still hope?

Domex website says it's still at the consulate, hubby called the DOS a few days ago and they had no info other than the status is "processing". Thanks!

Trying calling DOS again and see what they say. If they don't tell you the visa has been at least printed, there is good chance you will not have it by tomorrow. Unfortunately you may have to change your mother's travel plans. Hope you hear some good news.

No dice :( Called again today and DOS still say it's "processing". Cancelling the flight and hoping it still works out in time for her to come for Christmas. Lesson learned about buying the flight before visa in hand. We did this back when my hubby went through the process (again it was around Christmas and we didn't want to risk them going up) but it worked out that time. Hopefully by the time it comes through we can still get a reasonable flight.

I do still think it's increadibly rediculous that #1 the delay is because of some unrelated document they never requested prior to the interview and #2 this document was turned in 3+ weeks ago and is probably just sitting on someone's desk....

I'm waiting on my hubby's passport to arrive from domex as well. We called the DOS and they told us that the visa has been issued already, but it has been over a week now. If you don't mind, how did you obtain info from the domex site? I would like to see if our packet is still at the consulate as well.

Thanks!

Exactly, we are so ready to buy the flight but have been warned to wait until the visa and passport are in hubby's hands! Hopefully this ends for both of us soon

Here is the website you just need the receipt number they gave you when you paid the fee.

Thanks!

Send an email to Consulate as well, just in case it is sitting on someones desk they get a reminder that they need to be working on it. Also not sure what airline you were using or where your mother was traveling to but spirit is still under $300 for a oneway flight leaving even on christmas day, however it is only from SDQ as there are no available seats from after the 22nd through the 26th leaving from STI.

Thanks! We sent an email to the consulate Monday, they said we would get a response within 2 business days but we still haven't heard anything from them. We live in Texas but will be on the east coast for Christmas, so it depends on when she gets it... we may fly her into here or fly her to north florida and she'll come here after... it's all still up in the air! We were hoping on a one way from santiago to dallas on wednesday the 19th but it may not work out, and it went up from $300 to $422 overnight, but we'd probably take it if it means getting her here, at least we have a $200 credit with spirit!

Yeah the Embassy can be a little slow sometimes with their replies. Jetblue and spirit have the best deals to florida if you do end up having your mom go there first. Hope everything works out for you.

Just heard back from the consualte (after a second email). They said the case is in Administrative Processing??? This is the first we've heard of this. We already paid Domex and turned in her passport. They gave no indication of a timeframe when this will be done. My hope for Christmas is slipping away....

Oh no! Although we haven't been placed on AP, I did a little digging before and seeing from other's experiences being in administrative processing (AP) isn't good. They use it to drag out time for extra investigation. Some people have been in AP for over a year. Sorry, just want you to be prepared :( I'll pray that your suegra makes it in the minimal amount of time for AP to finish (maybe 4-6 weeks?). I do think that is so weird that they have placed her in AP...Has she been to the US before?

Yeah, we were surprised to. She's never left the DR, we're thinking maybe it's a name hit or something becuase the officer asked her three times if she'd ever been to puerto rico... We're really hoping it works out soon to have her here for Christmas or New Years... but I know if it is actually AP for something like a name hit it can take much longer :/
