Yes coz you think you know more than ppl who wrote the constitution, you forgetting some of the things you enjoy in your life is coz of them.

As usual u are not aware of the number of firearms in hands of civilians and military.

Strength is not just in the numbers. Organization and strategy has a lot more bearing on strength. It's why we can take a country of 20MM with a force of 150K. All your little armchair generals out there thinking they're keeping the big bad gubmint in check with their sports equipment are kidding themselves.

can you give a reason why constitution is very specific about right of citizen to bear firearm?

There are probably a few. Starting point might be the fact that the world and this country was a different place in the 18th century.

Oakland homicides in 2011: A statistical breakdown

By John C. Osborn

Posted March 19, 2012 1:30 pm

In 2011, there were 103 reported homicides in Oakland. Most of the victims were young black males who were killed with firearms in East and West Oakland. This is a continuation of a pattern in Oakland that has been the case for years and is closely tied to the economic and social realities of young people living in the city’s poorest areas.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Evidently the "friend" was negligent in not securing the weapon properly. I hope the victims' families sue the "friend" for everything he has. Trigger locks and gun safes should be the minimum for securing any weapon.

Here is the problem…. So from now on Gun owner needs to pat down all their friends entering and exiting the house and guest cannot be out of the sight for a second.

Should the gun owners also install the body scanners similar to TSA?

Number of Chicago Murders in 2008 Tops U.S. Soldier Deaths in Iraq, But Media’s Not Reporting It

Few Americans realize the number of people murdered in Chicago during 2008 was larger than the number of U.S. soldier deaths in Iraq during the same period.

In a Sept. 4 post, I noted an effort by Chicago’s CBS television affiliate to change that fact. CBS2Chicago broadcast a report that included an interesting stat — that is, the city’s 125 summer murders total nearly doubled the number of soldiers killed in Iraq during the same time period (65). Unfortunately, they seemed to stand alone.

Two days ago, Associated Press had the opportunity to share the facts for comparison. Unfortunately, they opted to publish a story containing only half of the story (i.e., that at least 314 U.S. soldiers died in Iraq during 2008, down from 904 in the previous year).

Yesterday, the folks at the Chicago Tribune had a similar chance. Unfortunately, their article that appeared in yesterday’s edition also included only half of the story (i.e., that the Windy City closed 2008 with 509 homicides, an increase of about 15 percent over 2007).

Combine the two stories, and the whole 2008 picture — the picture unpainted by members of the media — is made clear.

http://www.policymap.com/city-crime-rates/los-angeles-crime-statistics/index.html

According to the FBI, 617 people were murdered in Los Angeles County, California in 2010 making Los Angeles' murder rate 6.28 murders per 100,000 people. In 2009 this murder crime rate in Los Angeles was 7.09 per 100,000 people. Of those cities within LA County that fully reported crime to the FBI, a number have rates that are more than double this county average. Compton, for example, had a murder rate of 25.92 per 100,000 people. Inglewood's rate was 18.24.

Machine guns account for 3% of the homicides in California. "Legal" is splitting hairs.

http://oag.ca.gov/sites/all/files/pdfs/publications/Firearms_Report_09.pdf

not 3% - 3 total, or 2%. it also does not specify if they were full auto from the factory or illegally converted.

and in 21st century the citizen should not own a gun but only a law enforcement and military should own the gun?

Harvard Study: Gun Control Is Counterproductive

I am sure ppl will still continue gun control is productive and thats the way to go.

Chicago has the strictest gun control laws in the US. Concealed carry is not allowed (court fixed that mistake yesterday :) ) and it takes an act of god to legally own a gun in Chicago yet Chicago has the highest murder rate in the US followed by Washington DC who is second on the list in the US for strict gun control laws. So that right there says something about gun control and just how well it works.

Or, just don't leave firearms laying around where anybody could walk away with them. There is a good case for negligence.

What it says is that the type of gun control that's currently in place isn't working. Part of that reason is because it's so much easier to cross state lines and get these guns legally or ilegally, and then go back to the inner city and sell them on the street. What we need in place is nationwide gun laws, not state by state.

LOL - gun nuts still don't grasp that what's at issue is the ready and easy availability of firearms to anyone in this country. That is responsible for the deaths in Oregon just as much as for the deaths in Chicago. It is responsible for tens of thousands of deaths each and every year. These tens of thousands of lives lost year after year we easily gloss over but god forbid a fraction of that falls victim to a terrorist attack once in a century. I guess as long as it's Americans killing other Americans it's all good.

 The hypocrisy of the gun nuts is amazing.

3 percent as figure 4 shows, or 2 percent as one without reading comprehension would latch onto, the claim that machine guns don't kill people is bunk.

What nation wide gun laws do you propose?

ConcealedCarry2011.jpg

To start with a limit on the amount of guns one person can own, the caliber of those weapons and a ban on any automatic or semi automatic weapons. Also start a major gun buy back program for all illegal guns and also those owned legally but now not legal to have because of the new laws. Increase the mandatory jail time for anyone caught with an illegal gun from one year to ten years.
