It's funny, no one was arguing about gun ownership until you brought it up, you seem keen on trying to hammer this home. No one is about taking your guns away.

That's where the fear lies Marvin. If they admit there's a problem with the amount of guns to people ratio, then they will lose some or maybe all of those shiny black and silver thingys hanging in their display cases.

I'm all for the right to own guns, but there needs to be much stricter limitations on the amount of guns and the type of guns one can posess.

Be thankful to that Gun and Gun Owner that military coupe would be very difficult in this country.

Military coups? This is getting better by the minute. I am much less worried about a military coup than I am about all those time bombs that are out there ticking. One went off not long ago in Colorado, another one went off yesterday and it won't be long before the next on will go off. Military coup? Seriously? The paranoia is hilarious.

I needed to kill time until lunch. I am disappointed with how it turned out.

It's anti-climatic, and counterproductive to say the least, oh well, hopefully Bad Daddy posts something random that I can sink my teeth into

And that was the ENTIRE point we were trying to make, guns are fine in the hands of the right owners, but when you have the wrong people that have them, bad thing happen. Thanks for the clarity Teddy, I thought I was crazy for a second:)

But the relative ease with a gun is what makes this more of a reality than a fantasy within someone's mind. Think about it, there are so many ways to kill a human being, but with a gun how much skill do you need to accomplish your goal? If someone wants to kill themselves and others, the easiest way is detonating a bomb, or using an gun(automatic or regular). How far would you get if you just ran in the mall with a knife, or an ax? You might get one or two people before the herd mentality kicks in and you are overpowered. Guns give folks the sense of ease that makes them think they can achieve more carnage, you can't get close before getting shot is what most people think. If James Holmes went in the theatre with a knife, do you really think he would have killed 19 people? The kids from Columbine wouldn't have made it too far with anything else besides a gun.

i'm sorry, but what is your solution? i have every right to own a gun. so does my next door neighbor. america's problem with violence has little to do with access to guns.

what law do you think would have kept james holmes from legally owning a gun?

what law do you think would have kept the parents of the children of columbine from legally owning a gun?

the problem is not guns. the majority of american citizens can own or have access to guns and would never harm themselves or another person. it is the minority that, for some reason OTHER than access to a gun, decides to inflict harm upon others. you can attempt to control guns until gun prohibition takes over - that will not solve what causes people to act on murder suicides or mass shootings.

I would say access to guns is a very big part of the problem. If we limit access by restricting the amount and type of guns one person can own, these types of killing sprees would definitely diminish in number. Automatic weapons have no place in a residential setting. Limit the guns to one handgun and one rifle/shotgun to each licensed person and the killings will decline.

What about all the existing illegal guns? What do you do about those?

You have a "cash for guns" program and pay people to turn their guns in, this will help with the majority of illegal weapons on the streets. I doubt we would ever be able to get rid of them all, but the fewer that are out there the better.

there is no logic in that assumption. why do you think they would diminish in number? the access is still there(legality aside) and so is the intent.

That would probably work about as well as the guns for crack idea.
