i'm not fighting any battle. the second amendment already won the 'battle'. i just pointed out that the anti-gun freaks love to jump on stories like this, and condemn everyone that doesn't share their views.

But if you actually read the posts, no one is saying having a gun is bad, we are just saying it's sad when they are used to take lives, if anything they need some better form of gun control. And no matter how you twist it, guns have taken a lot of lives.

I feel the same way. I don't generally believe that guns ARE the problem. But I also don't know what the solution to situations like this is. Why does it happen more here than anywhere else?

I think we have a mental health crisis here, which I feel is exacerbated by people spending too much time on the internet and losing touch with real people. Frankly, many of the people on this site scare me, and the whole mindset here and all over the internet is one of bullying on a mass scale, for "entertainment."

These shootings seem to happen in the same areas too, suburban sprawl in certain areas. I personally think something is really wrong with Colorado for instance (I lived there and left ASAP, I can tell so many stories about the seriously fcked up things people said to me). I wouldn't have pinned Oregon as a place for a shooting though, but maybe things are changing. I just checked and this mall is in a suburb. I think that any town, whether small or large, should have the potential to be a self-contained unit with its own central area or areas, not an expanse of nothing created as a parasite of another town.

Why does that help mental health? I don't know, but the suburban sprawl of tract housing seems really sickening and unnatural to me.

What happened in Oregon yesterday wasn't an accident. Most of the other gun deaths that occur each day aren't accidents either. These are deliberate acts to kill. Unlike most car wrecks that result in death.

It's true. The Second Amendment is just as important as the other Amendments. It does serve a purpose.

But to claim guns are at par with golf clubs and footballs is laughable.

Sport is a secondary, ancillary use of firearms.
