Sad part about this is there are usually a handful of people who know the person needs help before something like this happens, but do little or nothing about it. And then when a select few do decide to try and help, it ends up falling on deaf ears.

it's really hard to force a grown adult to seek professional mental health. government agencies demand substantial proof before action is taken on their end. proper treatment is difficult to diagnose without full support of insurance companies and doctor's opinions from multiple fields. proper care, residential services, blah blah blah. we just don't care about it until it's too late. we'd rather badger sick people with the pull yourself up by your bootstraps ideology. if we find ourselves dealing with a friend or family member in a fragile state we're expected to adopt the bootstrap ideology as well. options are minimal.

The same way the pro-gun crowd jumps on every story ever posted about guns that are used for GOOD situations like defending themselves, their families, of their homes.

But once again, I am not anti-gun ownership.

There is a gun violence problem in this country. That's evident. A fact. You can deny it if you'd like, but it doesn't make it less true. I asked on the first page ... why do you think that is? Why is America so different in that regard? What's making us want to kill each other at an alarming rate?

Plenty. But how many people get in their car with the intent of getting into a car wreck and injuring someone or themselves? A car's primary purpose is not violence.
