"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

California "grand theft auto" (GTA), also referred to as "auto theft", "vehicle theft", or "joyriding" may be charged as a misdemeanor or as a felony. The seriousness of the charge depends on (1) the circumstance of your case, and (2) whether you have any similar prior convictions.

Hmmm...California changed its law without telling me. Now I feel old. It was only joyriding when I was a kid:

1. Joyriding used to be a separately prosecuted offense under California Penal Code 499b PC. In 1997 the Legislature determined that it was duplicative of California Vehicle Code 10851 VC. California Penal Code 499b PC currently only refers to "joyriding" as it pertains to bicycles and water vessels.

That is the lawyers opinion that its entrapment.

Is the case prosecutable? Does the guy who drove off punished to the fullest extent? Yes

Same way guy trying to buy drugs from undercover police officials or a guy trying to hire undercover hitman or guy trying to undercover prostitute are all prosecutable.

Mean the guy was looking for opportunity and car with key in there was the opportunity.

If you saw a nice shiny brand new 7 series BMW in the parking lot with keys dangling would you jump in the car and take off?

You have opportunity only certain ppl who have intent to steal would.

I think we have a mental health crisis here, which I feel is exacerbated by people spending too much time on the internet and losing touch with real people. Frankly, many of the people on this site scare me, and the whole mindset here and all over the internet is one of bullying on a mass scale, for "entertainment."

These shootings seem to happen in the same areas too, suburban sprawl in certain areas. I personally think something is really wrong with Colorado for instance (I lived there and left ASAP, I can tell so many stories about the seriously fcked up things people said to me). I wouldn't have pinned Oregon as a place for a shooting though, but maybe things are changing. I just checked and this mall is in a suburb. I think that any town, whether small or large, should have the potential to be a self-contained unit with its own central area or areas, not an expanse of nothing created as a parasite of another town.

Why does that help mental health? I don't know, but the suburban sprawl of tract housing seems really sickening and unnatural to me.

Portland is where young people go to retire...not shoot other people. IE its very chill.

I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.

A criminal or someone who wants to kill themselves or others will always find access to a gun or weapon no matter what the laws are.

The police were on scene within minutes. If you did that they might have mistaken you for the gunman or one of the gunmen.

I haven't read all 16 pages of this thread but has anybody checked out the shooter's facebook page yet? Jake Roberts

I don't know if you're supposed to be seeing anything? I was just sharing it. It's interesting that it's still active and what his cover photo says.

I found his blurb about himself more interesting than the cover photo. He seemed pretty happy.

This mall is right on the cusp of one of the skankiest sections of the city. A little east of there it cleans up a lot, rather abruptly, but the mall borders 82nd Ave, home of prostitution, heroin, and used cars galore. So there's this weird mishmash there of Happy Valley moms headed to Nordstrom and methheads wandering around after stumbling off of the Max.
