Alien Number?

My new spouse [yay!] arrived about 3 weeks ago. We just filed for his SSN#, which we were told would arrive in 5-7 days [same as my new card]. Considering that we married last week, we figured that it would be good to file now for his AoS and work papers... There is a local satellite office here that allows us to make an appointment and file in person, which we have heard is much more effective. However, when attempting to make an appointment, we were asked for his Alien #.

What is this number and how do we find out what it is?

If you are K-1 or K-3 you dont have alien number all you have is your I-94 which is attached by the immigration at the passport of your wife/husband.

I was a K-1 and I had an A number.. It was the number that started with an "A" on our NOA's and was the number that started with an "A" on my K-1 visa.. I'm guessing that the K-3 visa would also have an alien number in the same fashion... So either look on some old NOA's or your visa and look for the number that starts with an A

I first got my A number at POE. Officer wrote it in my passport along with I-94.

Yes, it is should be on the back of your I-94.

The one that you got from the POE is not the Alien number, its called Departure number which is the I-94

I'm not talking about the printed "Departure" Number on the front of the I-94. At POE, the officer wrote my alien number on the back of the I-94 under "Record of Changes".

Box 10 of the I-765 Application For Employment calls for the

"Alien Registration Number (A-Number) or I-94 Number (if any)"

So I take it to mean the I-94 number and the A number are the same. Thats the number we used and all of our forms were accepted and approved.

No, no, I-94 number and A-Number are not one and the same. There will be an A number assigned to you once you file with USCIS, it used to be the case that you kept your A number, but recently people have been given new numbers after filing I-485.
