Respected Members!

I need some advice from our expert senior members. I have got immigrant visas and flying by the end of Dec 2012. My POE will be ( G.Bush Int'l (IAH)).

Questions are:

1) What they gona ask at arrival (i do have a seal packet for them & Xray reports) what else?

2) My friends, told me to get your SSN and State ID card as soon as possible.

3) After how long i can apply for my passport? ( 3 years, 5 years)?

I mean, what other thing i have to make which will be beneficial for future.

thanks

Kashj

well you need tot ake the packet and the passport if the passport is not already inside the packet. you dont need your x ray reports but if you want to take it, you can.

yes once you are in here and you get your green card, then you can apply for SSN and your State ID card and if you want to drive, you can get a learning permit and then take the driving test and get a driver license, which is better than just state ID.

after 3 years and 5 months you can apply for your citizenship. But you might get a 2 years green card ( if you were married for less than two years before you applied for your visa), which is called the conditional green card and once you have that , then you will need to apply for permanent green card which will be valid for 10 years.

i would recommend that once you have your green card, you get a SSN number and then also open a credit card account, so your credit history will start to build ( it is very important if you want to get a loan later in life) and open a bank account and get a new cell phone on your name and so on. also i would suggest you bring some material from pakistan that will help you learn english, if your english proficiency need some work. buying books in USA are a lot more expensive than pakistan.

Good Luck

1. At POE you will hand to them (A. SEALED packet from Embassy, B. Your Pakistani Passport with VISA, C. Customes questionair they will ask you to fill out right before getting off the airplane) They will ask you additonal questions to varify the individual is actually you, (you will have had similar experiances before getting on the airplane at the airport in Pakistan... same questions))

2. If you filled out the form correctly i think the DS230 it has a question if you would like them to assign you a SS number, once you enter you should recieve it in 3 weeks. If you do not get it then go to your local Social security CARD center! yes "CARD" center not the social security office. (call them before making a trip there)

3. Your passport will remain a pakistani passport untill the requirements are met to become a US citizen. it requires 2 years of uninterupted stay in USA. or a total of 2 years in a period of 5 years. Read the requirements a little closer. After you have met requirements to become a USA citizen then you can get a passport. (this step is quite a ways away, do not worry about this yet) I think you are wondering about the green card, you should recieve that in the mail in a few weeks also. (perminent resident card)

Check your local laws, get your drivers license ASAP, once you have your SS the banks will allow opening a bank account and other such things!

Good Luck!

Don;t think he can apply for citizenship in 3 years - he's coming on F2A immigrant visa meaning petitioner is not a USC but LPR. 5 years should apply in this case for citizenship.

He will get a 10-yr green card.
