Question: We applied for K-1, got married, but have not filled for adjustment of status because we don't have enough money... Can we apply only for a work permit meanwhile? Is it the $380? chances of it getting denied? other options?

In theory it is possible to apply for a work permit for a K-1 applicant before AOS, but this work permit would expire when the I-94 expires, and since your entry date was in May it would not work at all. Unfortunately the only way for you to work is to apply for AOS and the work permit at the same time. This work permit would be valid for a year after approval (or until the green card is approved).

Unfortunately not - once the I-94 expires you can't apply for the work permit on its own, it needs to be wither with or after the AOS application.
