Greetings guys, I am Ilir from Kosova, currently studying and residing in Finland. I have been last year in USA during the summer , under a J-1 visa.Because I made a lot of friends, and I have a lot of contacts in America, they invited me to visit them during next summer.I applied to the US Embassy to get a B-2 Tourist visa. I was just wondering,do I have any chances to get the visa? I would also like to mention that , I can show them that I am an Automation Engineering student in FINLAND, and I will remain here at least until 2016, I have passed most of my exams from my first year, and Im still waiting to pass some others, I have enough funds in my account,I have a US social security number and US bank account, I have free accommodation in US, I have invitation letters from my american friends, my English is not bad(since I am studying in English here)and that I also like traveling( I have recently been in London, Munich,Zurich,Stockholm,Helsinki). Do you guys think that because I am young(I am 20 by the way), that can have a bad effect on receiving the visa? And , if I am approved, for how long do you think I can get the visa? How long can a B-2 visa holder stay in US? Can I stay there during the whole next summer(for instance 3-4 months)? Also... I have scheduled an appointment in my country(Kosova) on 9th of January, but I have to be back in Finland on 15th of January. Do you think 6 days is enough to receive my passport(and hopefully my visa) after I will have the interview? Sorry if I asked a lot... but I have a lot of questions on my mind ! Thank you in advance...

Warmest regards from the cold Finland :)

**** Moving from Moving Here to Tourist visa forum ****

The maximum stay on a tourist visa is 6 months. How long you are actually given is up to the immigration officer at the border.

Chances are 50/50. It's up to the interviewing CO's discretion to grant the visa, and it's up to the CBP officer to determine for how long they'll allow you to visit.

The only way to find out, is by applying for a B2 visa.

Unfortunately, we cannot predict the future and say if they will or will not grant a visa to you.

Like the VOs have never ever seen this silly transparent 'strategy'...do you really think that the VOs are not aware that 95% of tourists are routinely admitted for six months? They also have access to admission/exit records and can easily find out if 'three weeks' really turned into 4 months....and..the VOs have the power and authority to revoke said visa with NO QUESTIONS ASKED....so think about that before you try something others believe is truly clever, but in reality will only cause the VOs to wonder who told the truth....and this silly mind changing from a 3 week proposed visit to 4 months is ludicrous...no one can alter their alleged plans so dramatically unless those plans were already made....

And as an aside, all those posters, both in the past and present and future, who will write complaining in wonderment about why their 'friend' or relative was denied a tourist visa can thank those who promptly violated the trust of the VOs (in almost every country, some more than others).....actions speak louder than words....and all those 'mind changers' only cause problems for others...

You guys are very funny! I am telling you, my purpose is to TRAVEL , and not to work !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Understand that ! Why on Earth would I start doing those kind of stupid and illegal things to go in US, when I HAVE THE RIGHT TO WORK in Finland, and I CAN MAKE MORE MONEY HERE! Plus, I would save the money I would spend in buying my flight,I would pay less rent(because I would share the rent with my friend whom I live with here), and I would get almost 2,500 EURO per month ! Which in USA ,for a student is almost IMPOSSIBLE ! So , what I want to do is take a US visa for as long as I can (hopefully 10 years), so I can go and visit The States EVERYTIME I want ! Just like I visit most of the European countries. Because I like traveling ! That is all. If I wanted to go and work, there is Germany,Switzerland,UK,Denmark,Sweeden,FINLAND,Belgium,Austria and all those countries that I freely can go and where I could make MORE MONEY than in US .So please UNDERSTAND: I want to travel The States :)

My post, and I believe Noah's post was directed at the person suggesting you lie, and it also an fyi for you that what the other poster suggested is not the right way to go about things.

...except it begs the question ....an applicant was asked how long they planned to stay, based on their 'ties' to return to country x...and when that stated time is expanded considerably, well, it suggests that somebody lied (hint: it was not the VO)....so..open question to those to obviously don't comprehend the importance of maintaining credibility....when was the last time any of you took off work, told your boss (or your teacher) that you were going to visit, say, Europe, for 2-3 weeks, and stayed 6 months??? A show of hands, please.....hmmmmm....I see zero hands...in real life, no one changes plans that dramatically unless such a plan was already mapped out, but the details then kept from some authority...that is called....everyone.....LYING. Is that what we want visa applicants to do?

The last time I went to England, their border official admitted me for three months, though I had planned a ten day trip.....how long did I stay? ...ten days...'changing my mind' would have resulted in me losing my job, since I turned in a leave slip for about 12 days total....

bottom line: tell the truth, do what you said you were going to do, in the approximate time frame stated....instead of trying to play mind games with some VO, who will often see through the charade, denying one's visa application, and having your credibility tarnished....

And what if I am granted the visa, but I change my mind of going there and I stay in my place instead? Would that still be a LIE? Would it be possible for them to cancel my visa ?

If you mean cancel the entire trip, well, no one will care....but telling a VO ..'gee, I plan to stay 3 weeks...", knowing you are planning to stay 4 months, is a great big fib....(no matter how you look at it)...and if you show up at one of our airports, with 5 pieces of luggage for your alleged '3 week visit'...the CPB folks will quickly wonder what's going on (and, BTW, they have access to the issuance/refusal notes in the same system used by the VOs....so what you say at an interview is noted...) and you could find yourself quickly taken to secondary for a three hour grilling, followed by a (likely) reboarding of the same plane in which you arrived, headed back home, with your visa cancelled and your credibility ruined...is that what you want?

Can somebody give me some more help please?

do take sealed transcripts from your school showing how many courses have you done and how many are left, which proves that you will return back to Finland to complete your studies.also,if you have already paid the fees for the future semesters, bring the receipts along to the interview.getting a B/2 is share luck. i personally know at least 6-7 people out of few who fulfilled all the conditions what they need to have to get a B/2 but they could not get it and few of them who even lied on their visa application, provided fraudulent documents and still were able to get the B/2.the political relations between the US and your Native country has a lot to do too.to conclude, there is no hard and fast rule to get the B/2."you make your own destiny" does not apply here. your luck would . good luck
