Yes you can reschedule. There is information at the bottom of the interview letter telling you how to do so. I will caution you that sometimes rescheduling is easy and sometimes it is a royal PITA. I would ask your wife to decide which is more important, the family affair or her immigration future. Since she does not have her GC yet, she is delaying her date of becoming a LPR which will delay the ROC and USC if she should go that route. The new interview date may conflict with something else in the future and then the EAD and AP expire and she needs to travel back to her country and cannot. Life is full of choices and this is a big one. Does she really HAVE to be with her family during the week of the interview? I would lay all this out and make certain she understands the implications and risks and then if she chooses to be with her family reschedule and hope all goes well. I myself would go to the AOS interview just to get the process overwith and get the USCIS out of my life for 21 months.

Good luck,

Dave

Hey guys, i tried to convince my wife about staying a few more days for the interview, but unfortunately her mind was already set. The situation that came about with her could lead to the death of a very close family member thats y its so important, Anyway i called USCIS and spoke to someone and he setup a service request for a possible change of interview date. This was Monday morning i called, this morning i received an email from my local field office saying that they received the service request and they're gonna change the date. What i'm confused about aren't they suppose to at least talk about the change before finalizing it..? They just went ahead and cancelled the current one and put me on the list for another date. My other question is, is there anyone here who've changed their interview appointment, how did it affect your case and what did they ask you at the interview that you eventually received. Thanks in advance ..

Sounds like they changed your interview date. The local office must have misunderstood that is was not a possble chage but really a bchange in teh interview date. So your wife can visit and not worry about this issue. Now all you have to do is wait for them to reschedule you. I do not think changing the date will impact your interview. It may come up, so just explain the situation. These people realize that life happens and there are events that impact the decisions we have to make.

I hope you get an interview date that is not too far into the future,

Dave

You can change the interview date, indeed. The issue has been that they're not always updated with info so when people have gotten an interview at a later date and not show up to the first one(even when the appointment is rescheduled by the office/USCIS), it will look like you didn't show up, hence AOS denied. And if that would've been the case with your wife, she'd be out of the country and couldn't re-enter because AP wouldn't be valid after AOS was denied. So while I completely understand the urgency of your wife visiting, you both have to stay on top of your own case as well.

Personally, I'd get a confirmation for the change and then still call them up the day of your original interview day to make sure that they have the updated info.
