Hello,

My wife recieved her CR1 Visa and will be traveling to the US in a couple weeks. We were wondering what documents would be needed at her airport in Ukraine? Obviously she will need her airline tickets, passport with her Visa, and packet issued by the Embassy, but is there anything else that she will need to be allowed to leave the country? Any help is appriciated!

Thanks!

NO, a thousand times NO.

She may hear rumors that she needs this or that. She does not. She needs only her passport with the visa attached inside. The packet is for the entry into the USA.

As the consulate so succinctly put it when Alla was told of all the "other" things she "needed" to leave ..."If it was required WE would make sure she has it"

Thanks my Vermont fiends! She will be arriving in Boston at Logan.

:thumbs::thumbs:

I have never arrived there so I cannot tell you what to expect, JFK was no problem except for long lines (big surprise)

It is very strange but Boston is one of those "you can't get there from here" places for us. There are no flights from Burlington to Boston! You have to go to JFK and THEN to Boston which takes longer than driving! We can fly to Boston from Plattsburgh, NY but then have to get across the lake which takes 1-1/2 hours. Its crazy!

Incidentally, what is something you will NEVER hear a person in Vermont say?..."I could be in New York in 20 minutes if it weren't for that damn lake!"

Alla heard all sorts of stories that she needed tax documents and documents saying she did not own a car "Alla, there is a document that says you do NOT own a car? Is there one that says you do not own an NFL football team?" And WHY would you not be able to leave if you DO own a car?

They may hear a lot of stories but they have everything they need

Yes, my wife has heard many stories too. She will bring the tax paper, better safe then sorry. I was going to fly her to JFK on a direct flight, but it was with Aerosvit. When she heard this, she asked me NOT to book a Ukrainian airline. So I found a great deal through Delta, and will be flying in a KLM plane. I live 10 minutes away from the Manchester Airport, but to fly to Logan was MUCH cheaper.

I can't wait to take her to Vermont. I've done a lot of work on Mt. Mansfield and want to take her there after winter.

KLM is great but usually expensive. We usually end up flying on Aeroflot or Aerosvit but then we are buying 3-4 tickets at a whack! Saving $50 per ticket is $200 in my pocket.

Pasha is headed over to Ukraine Wednesday and Sergey is going to Moscow on Friday. Both on Aeroflot. Sergey is bringing back his girlfriend who will be a student in Houston where he is. (Yes, you can guess where this is going, I think I am going to be spending time in the "adjusting from student visas" forum) Pasha is going to visit his impossibly hot 17 year old girlfriend in Donetsk. The girl I tried hard to pretend not to see this summer! "Alla, who? What? What girl?":blink:

Pasha says "You KNOW why the Beatles sang 'The Ukraine girls really knock me out!'" Um, yeah, I do.

We can see the west side of Mt. Mansfield from our home.

I actually got a great deal with KLM. I have been on Aeorflot flights before, but my wife insist on another Airline.....no worries.

To funny you mention the Beatles song. I told my wife about that qoute about a month ago. She was quick to agree........Yes, those Ukraine girls knock EVERYONE out!

I have some really cool pics of me working on MT. Mansfield, maybe I can find a way to post them.

Hope all is well,

Jonathan

One of our favorite hikes is up a trail that starts in Moscow, Vermont (yeah, right...no kidding) it winds past the Mt. Mansfield Trout Club and is right at the north end of the Von Trapp Family Lodge property (Yep, when the "Sound of Music" escaped the Nazis, they came to Vermont!) It takes about 6-7 hours (post-heart bypass) to reach the top of Mt. Mansfield. About an hour and half to come down. Alla is an amateur photographer and loves to take photos of nature and interesting architecture, mostly from Russia and Ukraine. Most of the artwork in our home is her photos. Really very good. There is also a part of the famous "Long Trail" which runs near Richmond, Vermont that you can walk for miles up to the base of Mt. Mansfield. It is a beutiful area, in a valley along a river and is mostly level walking. That's when she wants an "easy walk" But her favorite walking venues are cities. Montreal, Burlington, Boston, New York...they are all good!

Your wife will enjoy it also. "Clean nature" is not something they ever got to enjoy very much.
