Each airport sets up their international arrivals how they like. Most have an immigration queue for citizens/residents and another for visitors. You are a visitor this trip. Once you get a greencard, you will be a resident. When you get to the head of the line, tell them you are entering on a K1 visa and show your brown envelope. You may be taken to a secondary room, given a seat, and asked to wait until they can process your visa. Some airports are set up to do it right where the lines are. There are reviews of different POE experience if you will look in the blue menu bar for POE. Find your airport---the first place you land if you aren't on a non-stop flight.

TIPS:

Fill in your I-94 card on the plane very neatly so your entry will be recorded with your name spelled correctly. Your social security card depends on it because your name has to be found exactly as it is on your passport. Otherwise there will be delays verifying your entry by Social Security before they will issue you a SS#.

DO NOT leave the POE processing area without being given the bottom portion of the I-94. Some hand it to you and many staple it in the passport. You need the I-94 for Social Security as well as
AOS

.

After your POE processing with immigration, get your luggage and pass through customs. Done.

Safe travels.

You probably did I-94W (green form) because you traveled visa free being from the UK, a visa waiver country. Since ESTA has gotten established, they don't do that anymore that I know of---it's all paperless.

BUT you aren't doing ESTA or visa waiver this trip. You are traveling on a visa. Everybody on a visa fills out an I-94 on the plane (white or manila colored form). There won't be many using it coming from a visa waiver country. You will do 2 forms---- I-94 and Customs Declaration. I-94 is very similar to the old green form you did before. It has two parts and is perforated. Immigration keeps the top half and you are given back the bottom half or more likely they will staple it in your passport after they have written on it and stamped it.

Hey,

I also travelled to Boston last night on my k1 visa.

POE took literally ten minutes, maybe because we got in at 22.45 I don't know, but it was very easy.

A few questions and I was on my way.

Something I was told by the immigration officer.

When asked what my plans were for work, I said well ive interviews lined up but obviously cannot start until my EAD has come through. He then said well that's incorrect, I can simply go to the immigration office in Boston and they will stamp my passport with proof I can work as soon as my marriage certificate has come through, and then wait the few months to get the EADin the mail.

Is this true ?

Thanks

No.

Our journey together on this earth has come to an end.

I will see you one day again, my love.

He seemed completely convinced and trying to help.

He gave me the address and said to me, head down there and they will be able to do it for you.

Worth a shout anyway with this time off

Scarily the people who deal with immigrants don't seem to have a clue about immigration law!

And that indeed proved the case.

I went to the Immigration office in Boston and was informed that what i was told at POE was incorrect.

It was worth checking it out anyway!

Well, now at least we have some anecdotal evidence! Glad you found a way to while away some hours!:thumbs:

RJ is always right. She doesn't give frivolous answers. I wanted to say "told ya, told ya, told ya".......but alas I didn't comment since you already were given the correct answer.

(don't get mad at me. I'm just messing with you a bit. )

Congratulations on your arrival. There's a limbo period where a K1 is kind of a nothing...no work, no driver's license. It sucks but will pass.

Go get your Social Security card. That you can get with a K1 up until 2 weeks before your I-94 expires. Read how to prepare in the VJ guidelines. SSA workers are all over the place with what they tell people because many don't get the K1 scenario. Go knowing you can and why. I think there is a SS forum too. My husband drove with his UK license until he got his EAD and a TX license. Consider yourself a visitor until the US gives you something (like an EAD or greencard) to be more than a 90 day visitor.

Are you in MA? From the day you become a resident you need a MA license but the cops don't know that! I drove on my UK license for a year.

It sucks taking the test again but it is ridiculously easy.
