The only number I have starts with the letters SYD. Is this my receipt number?

Just call USCIS and they should be able to look up your file by the info you sent to them. They'll give you your receipt number.

They won't. I called and they said the petitioner has to call, but I need the number today.

The SYD number is your case number with the consulate (SYD=Sydney).

The receipt number would have started with EAC or WAC. It would have been on any emails/text messages from USCIS, as well as your NOA1 and NOA2.

I just saw your dates. Which receipt number are you looking for? The original petition or are you talking about AOS or ROC? If so then the prefix will be different. However the SYD number is for the visa application only.

If you've checked your case status online, I'd go to USCIS.gov, and see if your browser is set up to remember the case number you typed in.

But where in the process are you? From a previous post by you, you were trying to get ssn, indicating you're already in the US. If you need the NOA2 for the AOS and you have absolutely no email/hardcopy of it, I'd go ahead and make an infopass appointment and have them print a confirmation out. It's not entirely the same as NOA2 however a replacement for NOA2 costs more than the petition itself and there are people who successfully send other forms of proof of NOA2.

K1 process, October 2010 > POE, July 2011

I-129F approved in 180 days from NOA1 date. (195 days from filing to NOA2 in hand)

Interview took 224 days from I-129F NOA1 date. (241 days from filing petition until visa in hand)

From filing I-129F petition until POE: 285 days

Click timeline or "about me" for all details.

AOS process, December 2011 > July 2012

EAD/AP Approval took 51 days from NOA1 date to email update. (77 days from filing until EAD/AP in hand)

AOS Approval took 206 days from NOA1 date to email update. (231 days from filing until greencard in hand)

From filing I-129F petition until greencard in hand: 655 days

Why can't your petitioner call, then?

Problem solved if that's doable.
