k1 and k2 social security cards, before marriage

we are going to get married next week. shoudl we go to social security office and get social security card or wait until we are married. to go get the card.

also can k2 kids get social security card under moms k1 visa??? i know the k1 visa holder is entitled a social secuirty card but im not sure about the k2 visa holders?

You can't get a SSN UNTIL you marry. My husband went to get his about two weeks after we married and within a week they mailed it out to him.

As for the kids, I couldn't tell you. Sorry. :blush:

For the kids (K-2) to apply to receive a SSN, the documents that they will need is: Their passport (with inserted I-94), and either an EAD or a Green Card.

this is wrong, alas. If you think it's right - then I'll suggest to you that you're holding 'the wrong advice' from a clerk at SSA. Them fellas are braindead, mostly, across the USA.

K-1 visa holders are eligible for a SSN regardless of marital status.

WHAT DOES MATTER - is when to get in to a local SSA office.

get in , in a window 2 weeks after POE to 2 weeks before I-94 expires.

K-2 visa holders aren't eligible for a SSN until they have either EAD or GC in hand.
