one more question about documents for getting married in Morocco

Hi again. So I have a good idea as to what documents are needed to marry my fiance in Morocco. But I have a question. Forgive me is this is a dumb question but I really just want to be sure I understand. Does everything need to be notarized? Example: the police department will give me a letter on their letterhead showing I have no criminal record but it will not be notarized. My employer will give me a letter but I know he is not going to go to a notary to sign it. Things like birth certificates and divorce decrees are official but not notarized. Again I realize this may be a dumb question but I am not sure about this and I don't want to end up going with paperwork that will not be accepted. Does anyone know the answer to this? I REALLY REALLY appreciate it! Thank you.

Most agencies will not notarize a document not issued by them for example a power of attorney is only notarized only after they confirm your identity, you can state why you are needing the notarization then after they see you then they will notarize the document. The notary cannot notarize something that cannot be confirmed regardlesss how official it looks. The only thing we notarized was the copy of my passport and that was done at the consulate which is your first stop to start the marriage process.

Good luck,

None of my documents were notarized I just presented the originals in return my hubby had everything translated into arabic. The only notarization you are going to need is of your passport at you will do that in Morocco at the US consulate in Casablanca. Please let me know if you have any other questions and I am glad to help if I can :) Mabaruk!! :)

Also keep in mind they will keep it all including the birth certificate so you might want to order an extra and make copies because you are going to need them for the CR1 process.

Thank you so much for the replies! I was really confused about the notary requirements and I was concerned. The last thing I want is to show up and realize I did not have the papers done correctly! That all makes sense now and I am quite relieved. Also, thanks for reminding me about making extra copies. I will definitely be needing those for the Cr1. I'm just a few weeks away now - I am so excited!!!!

I understand the anticipation and the happiness of getting married. My wedding in Morocco was the best experience I ever had in my life after the birth of my children :) I bet you will agree on this once you have completed it all!! I wish you much happiness :)

Thanks again! I am certain it is going to be such a wonderful experience. Once I get past worrying about all the things that could go wrong with the paperwork! My emotions are all over the place right now. I am happy and excited and happy happy happy!!! But nervous and worried - not about marrying him - but about things that could go wrong. I have heard about people being given problems about their paperwork like being asked for additional documents. So I am going there full of excitement and happiness and anticipation and joy. But remaining a little cautious until the day finally comes when we are married.

My advise is that anything you think you might need take it with you :) But that list they have on the consulate website is very accurate!

Were you by any chance asked for a document stating your religion? Some people have needed this and some have not. I asked my fiance to check in the village where we will be married exactly what they will need. But I am thinking this is something I should take just in case.

Your fiance should contact a local 3doul to get the list of requirements from them. The list on the consulate's website is very close, but it is not complete, or at least wasn't when I married. The 3doul had the complete local requirements.

I needed a doc regarding my religion. As the other responses have said, I didn't need my employment letter, police report, etc. to be notarized.

Best wishes to you!

I didn't need to have the certificate of religion they took care of all that for me. Yes have your guy go to the local adoul and ask for the requirements. But like I said when in doubt just take it with you and then if you need it you have it!

Thanks for all of the great information. I just thought of one other thing. Does the paperwork have a time limit? For example, the police record check. Should I get it now or wait until just before I leave. Same with my employer letter. I don't want to get there and find it was only valid for 30 days or something. I know I worry too much but I don't want to do anything to delay the process. Thank you again so much everyone!

Yeah, we got married in 2010 as well, the notarization was $50 at the consulate right?

We didn't do it that way in 2010, lots of things have changed since then.
