Hi Guys,

I am still waiting for my NOA2 but I went and had my medical in Sydney this week (I will forward my case number to them when I receive it)

All went perfectly aside from the fact that I lost my passport somewhere between leaving the medical and getting home.

I will obviously apply for a new passport (not a bad thing as it was due to expire in 12 months anyway) My concern is the fact that my petitions/medical/everything involved up to this point has been under my former passport number. Is this likely to cause any dramas with USCIS? Would I need to sit my medical?? Or can I just forward my new passport number when I get it?

Stressing out a fair bit to be honest.

Thanks for your time guys.

It could be a problem with the medical since you needed to show them your passport. I would email the consulate and ask them.

Oh man, that sucks!! You may be able to email the Medical centre the Biographic page of your new passport and they can compare that to the copy of the old one that they have on record to verify your identity. When I booked my medical they had me email a copy of my Passport to them, prior to the exam, so they should have this in their records if you did the same. I would email the Consulate and see what they say and maybe contact George Medical Centre too and see if that would be an option. Good luck!!

I'm really not sure that this would be an issue..

Did you send a photocopy to NVC of your biographic page?

If so, report it stolen/lost. Take that police report to the embassy when you take your new passport photocopy and passport to the interview.

Of course, contact the embassy. But I had to get a new passport during the process as I realised it would expire within the required dates so I got a new one and they just required seeing the old and new copies.

I have not sent anything to NVC at all. The only thing I am concerned about is the medical I have just completed. They have not sent my medical results off yet as they are waiting for my case number. Do you think I could just get them to change the passport number on my forms as they still have it at the center? I am really hoping I do not have to do the medical all over again. That is the only thing I have done in the process thus far that has anything to do with my passport number.

I think that's worth a try. You could ask them if they would be willing to do that.

I do have a scanned copy of my old passport but I obviously do not have my actual copy. Do you think a scanned copy would be OK as proof of my first passport or would they need the actual passport?

Hi David, I'm not an authority on this by any means, but I seriously think that it should not be a problem getting them to change the details on your medical reports, if they have it all still there and haven't sent it off yet. If it's still there, surely they can just hold it for the time being. Presumably they'll just want you to prove your identity and give them the new passport details when you get them, perhaps at worst to go there personally to show them the passport. I cannot imagine them making you do the whole exam again when they have all your records and it's clear that you're the same person who just had his exam done.

Just thought I'd throw in my two cents anyway. Best of luck with it!

Thanks Riss, that would make sense, I hope you are right.

Thanks for the insight!

my 2 cents, I used my NZ passport right up until visa issuing stage, I then submitted my Canadian passport, there was no problem. I asked them if it was ok they said yes, passports are linked anyway, you submitted a copy of your passport to prove your identity, a new passport will also do that, and if you need to, you can explain what happened, its still you.

shame about losing it. make sure you didn't leave it at the medical centre, and check through your things before you apply for a new one. but no, I highly doubt there would be a problem

Well that is comforting to know. I am just hoping that the fact I no longer have my orginal passport will not be a problem for any reason. I do have a scanned copy of it however so hopefully that is enough?

Thanks heaps for the response!

It's not a problem at all. Don't worry about it. Your ID was valid at the time you showed it so there's no need to update it.

I have a UK and an Aussie passport. I updated my name in my Aussie passport which in turn changed the number. When I filed AOS it was never an issue that it wasn't the same as the K1.

I really don't think it will be an issue :)

But seriously, just make sure you go to police and report it stolen!

You can then take a copy of that report and explain what happened to the embassy if need be. Also, you'll want it reported lost to protect your identity anyway.

Thanks guys, the doctor said to just scan him my new passport when I get it and he would change the number no problems. That is a huge wait off my mind.

I have only received NOA1 so far, there would be no reason for me to notify them of the loss of my passport would there be? I do not think I had to give them my passport number for anything but if anyone can think of something on the petition that would have my passport number then please let me know.

Thanks so much for all your help!

That's great news the doctor was able to help you.

I don't think you would have included your old passport number anywhere in the I-129f package, but even if you had, it's no big deal, people get new passports all the time during this process.
