I received two letters after two days of receiving GC. One is welcome letter and the other is I-797C, Notice of Action. These were dated when they received the package from the POE. The GC was issued two days later but arrived two days earlier than them. So I believe this was just to inform that they received the package and they are working on it.

Getting GC means that this application is approved, as it states. So I believe that 30 days to hear back from them is not applicable any more since I received GC which was issued two days later.

We got the SSC bur not GC yet and it be a month saturday since he came :(. I remember when i did this for my mom they send her the GC in less the two week after POE. So i don't know what is taking so long

10-28-09 : NOA

11-03-09 : Rec'vd NOA in mail

11-13-09 : Rec'vd Ds-3032 & AOS bill(by email)

11-14-09 : paid AOS bill(online)

11-16-09 : Registered mom email & returned ds-3032(by email)

11-17-09 : I-864 shown as paid

11-20-09 : I-864 package sent

11-27-09 : AOS recieved and being review(per AVR)

12-07-09 : DS-3032 Accepted

12-07-09 : IV bill gerenated

Most take around the 4-8 week mark!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

The stamp in ur passport is good for a year......And I can't recall the timeframe..but one has to be out of that window, before they will do anything about it. Time is on ur side.
