Thanks to all of you for the responses (and quick too). It's nice to get some impartial feedback on something like this. I really appreciate it...

Why anyone's feedback is of value is beyond me. You can have every person on here saying that a ring is unimportant...however, if it's important to your fiancee, then you, my internet friend, have made a grave error!

Instead of posting threads asking opinions...get the only one that matters by asking your woman!

As long as you and your lady are happy with whatever you decide thats all that matter.Having an engagement ring wasnt important to me. My hubby being irish, wanted us to have Celtic bands and i am happy with it :)

Kitkat is right....not all women are hung up on rings. My fiance and I waited awhile. I chose something modest in Australia and my fiance paid the jeweller hear by credit card. I paid for his wedding ring in the US and I transferred the money straight to the jeweller there.

I rather be able to hug my fiancé again than to have a diamond ring in my finger.

Actually, we talked about it. He wanted to buy me a ring and I declined for the following reasons:

1. he doesn't have the money right now,

2. the rings there (US) are more expensive than they are here,

3. I want our wedding bands to be custom made and it's easier and cheaper to do this here.

The test of courage comes when we are in the minority. The test of tolerance comes when we are in the majority.
