Question for the ladies

OK, here's my situation. Obviously my fiancee and I have already decided to get married. However I asked her this at the end of my last visit with her and did not have a ring. I will shortly be going back to visit with her and we are hoping that our visa will be approved another month or so after that. I am debating on what to do about a ring for her and am asking everyone I can. Here are my 2 problems, A: I am short on cash right now for a number of reasons including spending a lot to go and see my fiancee and can't afford the ring I'd really like to get her. B: There is a lot of crime in her country, she has been robbed since I met her and I know that even if I tell her not to wear it she's going to anyway.

So I'm just looking for advice about weather it's better to buy her a lesser ring and give it to her now. Or to wait and get her the ring I really want to and give it to her when she gets here. Also I'm thinking if I do the latter of getting some sort of subsitute until then. Is that a good idea or no? Any of you women out there with an opinion I'd love to hear it. Please don't think I'm trying to cheap out on my girl, I'm not. I just feel like I'm in a situation where what ever I do it not going to be what I want for her and it stinks

I did not expect a ring from my fiance as he could not afford to buy one. Maybe one day when he is settled he can surprise me with one but that is not important now. Him getting here with me is more important.

I think you should wait and get her the ring you really want for her! A substitute wouled be corny, and u will prob feel kinda weird giving it to her. Does your jewelry store have a lay away plan, that way you can set it aside and start paying it little by little, and before u know it , you will have paid it off! Don't worry my husb to be is in the Philippines and compared to the income here in the United States he is flat ### broke (lol) he proposed to me and didnt have a ring yet but I don't care about that at all! If you give ur girl the ring when she gets here that would be nice dont worry about it I am sure she understands, with all ur visits and costs of bringing her here....

We couldn't really afford to buy a crazy expensive ring. So we did some searching online, and found the perfect vintage art deco ring for me. Although it has a tiny diamond, and was only $190, I think it's more beautiful than any big ring anyday. You can find a ring that works within your price range with a little bit of elbow grease.

I'd say to wait until she's here. Fernanda won't wear her ring either, due to street crime in Brazil. She wears it only when she's with me. It just stays at home in its box. But she will have it on for the Interview!

hmmm ask some folks from her country. it maybe that they do not expect an expensive diamond ring(i know i know, around here that would be blasphemy, but different folks different strokes). si, if that is the case, you can priolly afford a nice non-diamnd ring.

I believe that if you share this with your fiance, it'll only increase intimacy in your relationship. Many women love it that their men are honest about things like that.

Don't worry, there is no need for you to go into debt in order to buy the ring, just wait until she's here. She would probably have to avoid wearing it in public anyway, because of the crime problem. They have many options, for those blessed with a lot of cash and the rest of us, usually short on it, hehehe. I wouldn't worry too much about getting a ring. My fiance didn't have much money when he asked me and he just bought me a plain band. It wouldn't of mattered to me at all if I had a ring or not. It's the knowing the he will be my husband soon that makes me happy, not the ring on my finger.

I'd talk to her about it. She shouldn't expect you to go seriously into debt to buy a ring, and if it's not safe for her to wear a diamond there, I think it would be just fine to buy her a plainer ring as a present now. But it's the sort of thing you two should discuss.

If it were me, I'd be fine with just a plain ring now and something nicer later.

When Leo and I got engaged he did not and still does not have money to buy me ring of our choice. However for time -being we decided on a non-diamond ring for me to wear in the mean time. Honestly - I really enjoy having it and love looking at my ring finger everyday. I don't think it is corny at all for a subsitute.

However in some countries rings aren't important. I would ask your fiancee what she wants to do.
