I have reviewed the time lines for processing and I thought I would just ask. From the time that the I-129F is received, what is by experience the amount of time before the Interview in Kiev? 2. Is the medical done close to the time of the Interview? and 3. Would it be prudent for me to fly over for that period of time to be with her and also for appearance sake?

1. Varies. For us about 5 months, Check more recent timelines.

2. Yes, usually the day before. Alla did hers a month before because she happened to be in Kiev on business

3. Do it for her, not for "appearances". I always say to go.

1. Look at my timeline (I'm too lazy to calculate or remember). Then look at USCIS processing times. Then add 1-2 months for good measure and learn that this is a long process overall. (Removing of conditions takes almost a year now, for example)

2. My wife did it 2.5 weeks before the interview just because she was in Kiev then. Can be done a day before, two days, a week, etc. Important note: get the DS-3032 filled out (vaccination form), will be a HUGE help here later

3. I went just to make it easier on my (then) fiancee, and just to be with her during all that plus the flight back to U.S.

Thank you. I want to be there to support her through the process. I do love her very much. Question on the I-129F...#9...What is an A#? And the only other question is on Question 18...Is it better to write the whole story on an attachment labeled "Question 18" or to fit enough type in the box provided.

Thanks for you help!!

Alien registration number. She does not have one yet, enter "none"

I used exactly 2 sentences to describe meeting Alla in person. The size of the box provided is indicative of the amount of essay needed. Save the rest for the interview for "proof of relationship"

1. The time lines reflect current processing but can go slower or faster depending upon circumstances at the USCIS center. If you are well organized there is a smaller chance of receiving an RFE (Request For Evidence) which would slow down your processing.

2. Most have the medical done just before the interview since the accepted medical centers are in Kiev. You will need the KEV number issued by the U.S. embassy in Kiev before the medical exam can be performed.

3. If you have the time and money to travel over there to be with her that is nice, but it is not necessary. Staying home to work and prepare your home for her arrival is perfectly acceptable. Your fiancee/fiance is the one going to the interview.

Understand that the visa will not be issued on the spot and generally takes at least 5 days. After that she will need to pack, say goodbye to family and friends and finish up a few other things that will make future processing in America easier. She might want to get up to date shots, college transcripts translated along with other possible documents. She needs to understand that leaving on a K-1 will likely mean being gone from Ukraine for a considerable amount of time. First, you must marry and then apply for Adjustment of Status (AOS) and possibly Advanced Parole (AP) if you think that applying for the green card might take long and she will want to visit home soon.

The A# is given at point of entry and will be needed in the future after the marriage. Regarding the description of your relationship, that depends upon each individual. Some choose to relate long stories of their love while others are much more concise. The important thing is to have documentation that supports your story and time line. Provide enough documentation to show a continuing relationship with photos that identify the two of you together and when. Organize all of it to be sent to USCIS. They use two hole top punch files so adjust your documents accordingly and use a nice letter of introduction to explain all that you are sending. Well identified separation tabs helps to assist the processing center and will eventually speed up your case.

All good advice.

The "A" number is actually issued with the I-129f approval. It is on the approval notice, upper right corner. It is also on the visa itself. The CBP writes it on the I-94 and for many people that is the first time they notice it.

Gary,

Not for nothing, but when my wife arrived in JFK they gave her a different A# (a screw up) and that led to the whole other set of issues...

I am really seeing how this site will be very helpful...I even figured out what a "timeline" is. Anna is so excited to get this started. Next step is to mail on Monday and figure out how to upload pictures of the DR. Honestly the best week of my life with the woman I have waited my whole life for. And my journey continues....
