Hey guys, just wanna share about this. I live in an apartment with my husband, and yesterday the apartment complex office personnel called me just to tell me about, i got a mail from capital one, it goes to one of the neighbors mailbox and she ACCIDENTALLY open it.It happens because the mail didnt have the apartment number. But it is not right to open a mail that is not in your name right. And as what they told me is SHE "ACCCIDENTALLY open it" without looking on the name on it, how come there is no sticker attached to the credit card already. As i am reading the instruction on activating the credit card it says, that to be able to activate the card , call the number in the sticker attached in the card, but the sticker is not yet in there. So what we did is we call the capital one to tell them what happened, and i even ask if the card is activated already and they said yes. What i am just thinking now is, how can the person who open the mail can activate my credit card, they didnt even know my SSN, but... but.... i just send my informatin to the office personnel for adding me to the lease aggrement, so they have all the information about me. The capital one customer service tell me to find a lawyer , because it is against the law to open a mail if it is not in your name , specially if it came from the bank. what do you think guys.

Some cards are already open & active once they ship them to you. Your neighbor may have tried calling the number to activate it, and that's why the sticker is gone. But when she would call, they'd either require the call to be made from YOUR home telephone number you provided when you signed up for the card, or more details about you like SSN, mothers maiden name, etc.

Best bet is to tell them to re-issue a new card, with a NEW CREDIT CARD #. This will help protect you, in case she wrote down your card number and would try to use it on the net for example.

This is a good idea. Hopefully they will correct your address too.

they shouldn't have been able to activate it as they didn't call from the number you put on the acct, and they shouldn't have known your ss#, so I'd deffo take it further with cap one.

thats why we are so confused on whats the real thing, who open the mail? the office personnel of the apartment complex, who gets my personal info last few days for adding my name into the lease aggreement or the neighborhood who brings the mail back to the office , saying that it is not her mail and it is in her mailbox.

anyways as i apply for that credit card my address is correct, they just didnt put the apt number and the woman who delivers mail just put it in diff mailbox. even if she knows that theres no apt number, oh my. So what i am saying is it is not my fault because i have the copy of my application form, that my address is correct, hehehehe.
