Hi all, I'm new here and need some help. My name is Sarith, I'm a US citizen and is going to Cambodia to marry my girlfriend in a couple months. I know nothing of how to get married. It is all being prepared by my parents and my girlfriend's parents. I was told that I needed to get some documents but is unsure how to obtain some of them. I got my work certificate, affidavit of single status, and medical records. Where do I get my criminal records from? Do I really need it? I've ask my local police department and it costs $10 just for them to show me my background. But they cannot give me a copy. So how do I get a copy for Cambodia? If the Embassy needs my criminal background can't they just look it up themselves? This is the only thing left on my to do list. Any help from anybody would be greatly appreciated.

Any documents you need to get married in Cambodia will have to do with Cambodian regulations not US embassy requirements. When it comes time to file for your future wife's visa then you will be dealing with the US gov't and will eventually need a police clearance for your future wife but not yourself (unless you have crimes that fall under the Adam Walsh Act).

There are a few Cambodian members here at vj and hopefully they will come along to help you. I know there are some specific requirements the Cambodian government has in place for foreigners to get married especially for older males who want to marry Cambodian women. This link from the US embassy in Cambodia might help you:

I would also search the forums to get some info from others who have gone through the process. There are probably some helpful threads somewhere around here.

Good luck.

You need to meet the requirements set by the Cambodian government:

Income of at least USD$2500 per month.

employment letter

background check (you can get this from police, FBI)

documents stating you're single and legally eligible to get married

you'll need to do a medical

Most importantly, you need approval from the US gov't. This is done at the US embassy in PP. There is a fee of USD$100 for this document, only cash is accepted.

This is what i recalled getting for my marriage back in march. Hope this helps!

What do you mean I need to do a medical? I just requested my medical records from my family doctor and WOW. They sent me everything, at least 100 pages of records and logs. Did I get the wrong thing? Is there a certificate I can get from my doctor that just says I'm healthy? If so what's it called? Also, ####### i don't make $2500 a month. Is there a way around this like have cosigners? Or can I just go to Cambodia, have engagement ceremony, file k-1 and wait to marry here in the US. Will that work? All the ceremony stuff are being prepared now by our parents. I would hate to go there and have everything get cancelled. That would be embarrassing. HELP ME someone please.

Im going through the same process as you and planning to be in Cambodia in mid march. Its not your medical records that you need but a medical check up thats done in Cambodia at one of the hospital there.

Just bumping this up to keep it in the loop. I'm starting the whole process and reading as many threads as I can before getting married in June 2013. Looking through and filling out all of the CR1 forms now and gathering info to get used to it and try to get any questions answered before hand.

Your in laws in Cambodia will probably get someone to take care of the process there. They are essentially lawyers (snakes). Bring with you a letter from work stating how long, full time or part time and how much you make. I brought my tax info from the previous year and the lawyer basically did the rest. Freshen up on your Khmer.
