Hi,

A random question really. How long do you have to wait until you can get a Driver's License in Florida? I will HOPEFULLY be going there on a K1 visa and to get around I will eventually want to drive. Was just wondering how long I will need to wait to be able to do this?

Any help will be appreciated.

Look through this site, and if you have questions, call customer service.

Pretty sure you can get it as soon as you have your SSN.

When you file for AOS after you are married, you will apply for EAD/AP at the same time. The EAD/AP is usually approved in about 2-3 months after applying. You can apply for your SSN about 2 weeks after arriving in the US and with the SSN, EAD(valid employment authorization card) and 2 proofs of residency you can get your license or state ID. If you will be changing your name after marriage, you will also need to bring your certified marriage certificate. As a non-immigrant, they will issue a temporary license, mailed from Tallahassee after your status is verified. It will be valid for as long as your EAD is. You may be able to get one with your I-94 and SSN, but it would most likely expire in 90 days when the I-94 does. When you get your green card, you can go back to get a regular, non-temp license.

I asked this same question a while ago :) I will be moving to Navarre (the top of Florida) so a car is a must have! I hope I can start driving soon once I move :)

Thank you everyone for your help. :)

What everyone told you was correct. You will need at least your EAD/SSN to get any form of FL Driver's License and until the GC arrives, it will be considered "Temporary" and will expire with the EAD. If you already drive in the U.K., make sure you get an International DL before you leave the U.K. and you should be able to drive here in Florida until you can obtain your (temporary) FL DL. If you don't already drive in the U.K., I'd suggest that you learn before moving to the U.S., if only to be able to get the IDL before leaving. There are time limits on using an IDL/UK license to drive, but I'm not sure what they are in FL.

Best of luck!
