Anyone ever wondered why some people choose to live in a gaited community along with having an active neighborhood watch?

Zimmerman initiated the conflict. It happened as a direct result of his own actions. You could easily say that Martin felt threatened and decided to defend himself. Martin only had fists to use, Zimmerman had a gun.

It's part of the issue. If it hadn't happened, Zimmerman wouldn't be in the mess he's in and Martin would be alive.

You must be new to the United States of America and it's laws. In this country (USA) it's not against the law to question someone. If a person feels threatened by someone they are advised to call 911 and not to physically attack another human being seeing how that is against the law. It may be different in Canada and if it is then I can understand your thoughts on this. Now you know so no reason to make that mistake yourself.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Intentions or not it comes down to who physically attacked who first. In the United States of America it isn't against the law to question someone but it is against the law to physically attack another human being. It isn't against the law for the human being that was attacked to defend themselves even if it means shooting their attacker.

Ev beat me to it but let's switch this view:

The Patriot sums this up a couple of posts ago perfectly. When someone is being hunted, it's either fight or flight. TM tried to get away from him, but he kept coming at him. You can hear him on the phone running after this boy. When he finally caught up to him, I agree with Ev, he was scared and wanted to defend himself. It's funny in a society we teach our kids don't talk to strangers, but in this case everyone is forgetting that.

If only Zimmerman had done just that when he had 911 on the phone he would not have ended up murdering an innocent person.

Iv'e attended several anger management classes...all court ordered and all said the same thing. Call 911 before swinging on anyone. It's the law.

But how do we know that Zimmerman didn't push or shove Martin first? He could have gotten in TM face and that's when he got his butt whooped? Man, you are so sure Zimmerman was in the right about killing this kid.

If what you said is true, why did Zimmerman call 911 and then go and confront Martin?

If TM physically attacked GZ then he was anything but innocent. In the United States of America it is against the law to physically attack someone unless defending yourself after being physically attacked by your attacker. Read up on the law and then get back to this thread. Been there done that.

It's not against the law to question someone, but if you don't have the authority to do so, and you take it too far, chances are you'll wind up wiith a broken nose, kinda like Zimmerman.

The implication being that GZ called 911 knowing full well he was going to kill TM. In the USA, that is called premeditation, but, to be sure, you're an expert in criminal law and I need not tell you that.

Do that and there's always the chance you will end up shot and possibly killed. Kind of like TM did. Learn from your mistakes...if you don't die from them first.

The one thing that is missing here is context, you are quoting the law but you are leaving out the situation surrounding this law. Zimmerman created a hostile enviornment for this young man, and now we condemn him for reacting to the situation? That boy was hunted like an animal for over 5 minutes, because he was black and this made his subject to all types of steroetypes. He made sure 911 knew he was doing something wrong in one way or another. And when he finally caught up to him, do you think he actually tried to reason with him? He is in an alley at night and probably scared that this man wants to do him harm, because every action GZ made, he made it clear he wanted TM to pay for something he didn't even do.

All speculation on your part. Call 911 if you feel your life is in danger. Do not physically attack someone unless being physically attacked first. That is the law.

If only Zimmerman had followed the instructions he received from the 911 operator, he would not have murdered an innocent man.
