Hi all

I have ready a couple of posts saying that the had to have an FBI check at the interview.

In what situation is this required?

Just want to prepare myself!

Cheers

Hello yourself :D ....

The police check you submitted with your K1 visa application is only relevant to anything (offences) that occured ( or not ) in the UK. The FBI check which is run when you apply for AOS, is relevant to anything that has occured here and probably due to the terrorist threat anywhere else.

I don't know about that. I thought it was if you have a similar sounding name to someone who has commited an offence so they run a more detailed check on you. I'm talking about K-1 interview stage btw.

I could be completely wrong though...

The FBI name check can be done at K1 stage prior to issuing the visa or at AOS stage, it's the luck of the draw - if you can call it that.

The results from the FBI name check can be avalible in one week to a couple of years and the people that are waiting for their visa to be issued must just sit and wait, nothing can be done to speed it along.

The reason you don't need to submit police certificates from the US is because they run an FBI check on you. They may have done it prior to approval, maybe at the NVC, maybe at the consulate, or maybe while you are waiting post interview.

It's fair not to assume anything unitl you have your passport/visa in your hand.

I went to my intervew 3 weeks ago thinking that everything would be ok and we just needed to be finally approved. I was advised at that point that FBI Name check needed to be completed. I was also advised that this process would take one week. Now 3 weeks later I wait............

No, you can't assume anything AT ALL. Never assume you won't have any problems. I am mystified by people who book plane tickets for a few days after their interviews....but before they have actually had the interview itself.

*shakes head*

I mean, there is being confident and being overly confident. To me, it would be like tempting fate to do all of this.

Alot of people do all right and pass the interview...but there are a few who encounter problems and you can never guarantee it won't be you.

Good luck! Hope you get it very soon. Was there any reason to expect you may have needed an FBI check? Aything like many visits to the US? did they give a reason at all?

Good luck Claire. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that it all goes smoothly and you will get the visa in time to meet all your plans.

6/05/06 - Mailed off the I29f

06/20/06 - Cheque cashed

7/07/06 - Still not received NOA1. Call CSC. They have input our address incorrectly. Give them the correct details. Also find out what our case number is from them so can check for touches!

07/13/06 - Receive RFE

07/26/06 - Email confirmation they have RFE

07/27/06 - Touched

08/23/07 - Call CSC to find out where NOA1 is and what date was on it. As it was sent to the wrong address it came back as undeliverable. They will not send it out again unless we send them a written request. However date was;

06/09/06 - NOA1

09/07/06 - NOA2 email confirmation

09/28/06 - NVC say they have sent details to US Embassy in London

12/09/06 - Sent back packet 3 recorded delivery

10/30/06 - Medical

11/06/06 - Interview confirmed 1st December!

01/17/07 - Wedding booked in Vegas

Yup! *agrees wholeheartedly*

I don't mean to frighten anyone or get them even more worried. Gawd knows it is stressful enough. BUT it is a good idea to go in with the idea that you could potentially get a delay or hold up of some description. There is no reason to think it will happen to you...but no reason to assume it won't either.

It doesn't happen often, but it does happen.

When i went for my interview in September, the lady who interviewed gave me the impression that the FBI check is more of a fingerprint check than a "name" check, thats why they take your fingerprints electronically during the interview. Good luck and i hope you get your visa soon.
